Steve Ward is a computer scientist who was a member of the MIT group. In 1971, Ward and Rici Liknaitzky discovered many properties and patterns of 3-4 Life using a general cellular automata rule program written by Roger Banks. That same year, he and Banks, assisted by Rich Schroeppel and Mike Beeler, proved that a rectangle of only 9 × 33 cells contains a Garden of Eden.[1]
