56P27 is an unnamed period-27 oscillator discovered by Nicolay Beluchenko on May 11, 2010.[1] In terms of its 56 cells, it is currently the smallest known period 27 oscillator. It gives dot sparks, allowing for the construction of non-trivial higher-period LCM oscillators as seen below.

It first appeared semi-naturally in October 2017, in a symmetric soup submitted to Catagolue by Apple Bottom.[2] Approximately 1 in 10 billion even fourfold rotationally symmetric soups (C4_4) form a 56P27.

A 52-glider synthesis for this oscillator was found by Martin Grant in 2013,[3] which was reduced to 20 gliders by 2718281828 in November 2017.[4]

On January 29, 2022, David Raucci used 56P27 with a block removed to create the period-27 glider gun.

LCM oscillators

The oscillators below are listed due to being the smallest known ones by population while satisfying the condition that at least one cell oscillates at the full period.
