Detailed movement of a glider in 3 ticks, which explains the following concepts.
Phase: the arrangement of cells in one tick. A glider has 4 phases.
Parity: because the 1st&3rd phase are identical considering reflection, and so does the 2nd&4th, a glider has 2 parities.
Period: the minimum number of ticks passed to appear in the same phase. A glider is period 4.
Mod: because there are two ticks between the same parity, a glider has mod 4/2=2.
Speed: after a period a glider has moved one cell right and one cell down, so a glider has speed (1,1)c/4.
Color: a property depending on the (x,y) coordinate of the grid. The color of a cell with even (x+y) values differs from that of a cell with odd (x+y). The glider shown above is assigned to be "red".
Half-diagonal: the distance between the red and the blue line is half of the diagonal length of a square cell.
Lane: the path a glider travels in without crashing in other patterns. The glider lane is 9 half-diagonal wide and centered between the red and the blue line.

This is my page for Project Wöhler, a personal attempt to make notes for components in Conway's Game of Life glider synthesis. F. Wöhler was a famous German chemist, whose work in synthesizing urea from ammonium cyanate in 1828 was a pioneering event in organic chemistry.
