Octagon 4 is a period 4 oscillator, discovered in 1979 by Robert Wainwright. It consists of a regular octagon with sides four cells long and of four blocks. In August 2004 Jason Summers and Mark Niemiec found a 34-glider synthesis of this oscillator.[1]

If the blocks are removed, it will decompose into a rare constellation of four ponds.
