Honeycomb (or super beehive[1]) is a symmetric 12-cell still life.

It can be seen as containing a photonegative beehive.

Construction

This still life is known to be constructible with 5 gliders.[2] A 6-glider synthesis was found in May 2017.[3] A 5-glider synthesis was found by bubblegum in October 2020 with a Catagolue-based random glider synthesis searching script.[4] Several known alternate syntheses can be found in Mark Niemiec's database.[5]

Occurrence

See also: List of common still lifes

Among the 121 still lifes with 12 cells, this is the 76th most common still life according to Catagolue.

There are no collisions in octohash, octo3obj or octo3g databases with this still life occurring in the ash.

In other rules

As for isotropic non-totalistic rules, the honeycomb is common in S8 rules from B3i/S2cik3acy8 to B2-ae34-e5-y678/S01c2345-i678, including the outer-totalistic EightLife) (B3/S238), as a line of six evolves into one. It is also common in S2-i rules from B3i/S2ck3cy to B2-ae34-ew5-y678/S012-i345678 like tlife where it evolves from what is the phi spark in Life.
