To hassle an object is to repeatedly move or change it in a periodic way. For example, toads can be hassled by domino sparks, causing them to flip orientation as in a toad flipper. An oscillator that works by hassling some object is known as a hassler.

Since 2021-2022, most high-period newly discovered oscillators are hasslers. New hasslers are usually found through the one-spark[1] and two-spark[2] programs written by David Raucci, the latest depth-first version[3] of CatForce written by Mitchell Riley, or LocalForce written by Nico Brown.[4]
