Don't think so. 10 cells can create infinite growth - which occurs 1/100K. LWSS happens 1/K. 8 bits should suffice for all the *WSS types.

Search for Rs + blinker/protoblock, or simply random 8 bitters.

It might be the smallest by bounding box area.

Wow, this is quite a coincidence. I was just searching for single transparent block reactions on the unmodified Herschel (using a custom Python script, because I don't have access to either Golly or a C++ compiler right now), and found this (probably mostly pointless) transparent block, shown as part of a p2 H-to-FNG (that I found the completion of by manually placing cells in this plaintext pattern and running it in LifeViewer):

If you're going by population, surely a LWSS becomes a LWSS. 8 cells without spark.

Don't know... not sure anyone searched for it.

I can't see any "wider" application for such finding (for example 10 cells infinite growth brought 23 cells quadratic growth, and for *WSS 8 cells is enough).

The problem with judging by bounding box - is that it can't be added to any other pattern (unlike judging by cell count). This is why I think it's "isolated" fact that has no other applications, and therefore kinda "boring".

Wow. Looks like it has 23 lanes' worth of clearance from the glider lane that the eater blocks. I think if that had been known, it would have come up in the discussion of high-clearance eater seeds, back when the linear propagator was still a work in progress.

This might find its way into the quadratic replicator someday. The single-channel construction toolkit has kind of a big and unwieldy reaction envelope, so blocker mechanisms are going to need all the clearance they can get.

But I haven't seen it in any pattern collection...

Considering that there are 672172 different 22-bit still lifes, the chances of any one of them being in a pattern collection is extremely small, unless if it has some sort of special property.

And that's only considering the 22-bit ones.
