Sweet! I knew focussing all that effort on D4_x1 would pay off.
(Well, no, actually I didn't; it was just serendipity.)

Certainly, same for me too. I just prefer D8_1 and D8_4the results, so far, have been a few unusual oscillator periods and a Puffer 1.
EDIT: In fact, I also concur with Apple Bottom that D4_x1 is a good idea take a look at this

It's in jslife with a slightly larger stator; look at the second item in the second row of o0006.lif:

It's also in my old
stamp collection; according to the comments there (for 6.2.3) it was found by David Buckingham in 1976 or earlier.
I'm surprised that the soup search found a smaller version than Buckingham did.

Of course. That was a bit dumb of meI had actually looked at the version with long^3 boats found a few days earlier. But still a nice stator reduction.

The p15 seems to be newthis one *definitely* is not in jslife.
From my haul
here.
EDIT: The other yl_96 is from another of my hauls
here. I think Michael Simkin discussed a twoswitch engine puffer that left just one row of blocks in the sawtooth thread, but I don't think there's been a comprehensive enumeration of all the different SE orbits that would confirm that this is definitely new.
Also the GoLbot seems to have posted bothbut they haven't been picked up by the main account yet.

Here it is in its standard form.
Code: Select all

bo7bobo7bobo$3bo17bo$2bob2o13b2obo$3bo3b2o7b2o3bo$5bobo9bobo$6bo11bo!
And I guess, it is also the minimal stabilization.
Stabilizing one segment would be probably a challenging task.
P. S. But maybe two p5 sparkers will suffice.

Maybe one can make a strictly volatile p4 with this??
Wait, it's extensible!
Code: Select all
x = 53, y = 51, rule = B3/S23

It was mentioned before by A for awesome but I am not aure if it is new.
Here are some interesting low period discoveries.
A long known p5 (Mathematician? Forgot its name.)
http://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xp5 ... 3113/b3s23
http://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xp5 ... 1011/b3s23
Two related p6s. It looks interesting but my guess is that it is in jslife.
http://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xp6 ... y511/b3s23
http://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xp6 ... 0321/b3s23
There's another big new p6 that I have reported before in a close rule (I think it was b3/s238)
Best wishes to you, Scorbie
