How did I even miss that event? That is totally a "Small" Spaceship Synthesis (Not syntheses)

Synthesis (Not syntheses)
"Syntheses" is the plural form of synthesis; since this thread is not dedicated to a single synthesis, "Syntheses" is correct.

This soup for xs24_rb88brz011dd does something interesting:

Code: Select all

x = 48, y = 38, rule = LifeHistory
4.A$3.A2.A$3.A2.A3.3A$5.A$14.A$14.A$4.2A8.A$3.A2.A$3.A$8.A$4.C4.A34.C

32.A.3A$3.A$45.3A$.2A3.A$6.A$A5.A$.2A.A.A$3.3A5$6.A$5.A.A$6.2A!
There are 212 soups for this still life. If one of them can be made into a synthesis with an accessible two-blocks area, it could sharply shorten the weekender synthesis.

EDIT: We could also check soups for xs32_j9c88gzdlllldz641 and then damage one of the sides to turn one side into two blocks.

Without taking a closer look, the synthesis for 30P4H2V0.4 might profit from the newly available tools. Did anyone try to improve the synthesis for pushalong 1?

The spider synthesis was discovered a while back by Extrementhusiast and has been greatly reduced since then.

Jumping back to a topic from a few months ago, it looks like Nathaniel's p960 Big A gun and Sokwe's p144 version aren't in gmc_nxtman's collection.
Neither is my P142 big A, P154 loafer, P930 10-in-a-row Cordership, P240 crab, P690 27P4H1V1, P120 space rake alternating, and P11040 spider guns in the collection. Are my guns just not notable? These guns are in my user page.

You've done quite a bit of notable gun-building work recently, it seems to me. I sometimes feel like your guns' layout "ought" to be more efficient in some way or other. But honestly, a decision not to play the Pointless Optimization Game is a perfectly honorable one, and saves a lot of wasted time.

After all, calcyman refused to play the Pointless Optimization Game for many of his mega-constructions a decade ago, and half of them probably wouldn't have gotten built at all if he'd gotten sidetracked by obsessive packing problems all the time.

Anyway, your guns aren't in that collection simply because the collection hasn't been actively maintained recently. Looks like gmc_nxtman posted the collection with a request to be notified if anything was missing. You might try a PM to see if gmc_nxtman is still interested in adding new guns, and/or you could offer to take over the maintenance work, and make an updated version yourself.

The bottom part of the spaceship seems quite hard. Here's my best idea so far.

There's also the possibility of something like this but I haven't found any ways of getting to turn the red cells on at the right time (generation 6):

Here's a working predecessor for the bottom that should be "relatively" easy to implement. It doesn't seem to protrude too much to the north so it seems fairly plausible that this is compatible with Bullet51's ideas for the top:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 24, rule = B3/S23
14b2o$14b2o2$12b4o$11bo4bo$11b2o2b2o$6b2o4bo2bo4b2o$6bobobo6bobobo$9b

o8bobo$2b3o8b2o8b3o$o2bo20bo2bo$o2bo20bo2bo$3o22b3o!
The fuses look complicated but they can be created quite simply like this:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 16, rule = B3/S23

Edit: Here's a proof-of-concept implementation of the above predecessor with gliders:

What are all those decorations at the bottom for? The ship flies off just as well without any of last dozen rows.

I guess this is just T = {something} from Goldtiger997's most recent posting, with some edits magically made so that the ship works? It doesn't seem like this kind of example will be useful, unless you say what the {something} is and explain what changes you made, and whether those changes can be made by adding gliders. (?)

Here's an updated ZIP file adapted from a collection Entity Valkyrie sent me, including all of the above-mentioned patterns. I've added the p120 alternating space rake gun and the two big-A guns. Have also edited in basic comments to all of EV's patterns, which were unattributed in the original ZIP file.

A Plaintive Plea to Potential Pattern-collectors
A quick hopeful reminder to anyone who puts together pattern collections: it's really really helpful if the comments to each pattern include a link that would let someone track down where the pattern came from. It's usually quite easy to collect a link like this at the moment when a pattern is copied out from wherever-it-is. And it potentially saves other people a lot of puzzlement and painful research work a few years down the line, when the topic is no longer fresh in anyone's mind.

EDIT: found a missing file and re-uploaded 2/24/2020. There are still a dozen or so patterns with no links or references.

I eventually found a way of achieving one of the "ideas" from my previous post:

Code: Select all

x = 64, y = 81, rule = B3/S23

It leaves a fairly reasonable amount of room for the bottom to be done. Unfortunately there isn't quite room for the current only way I've found of making the bottom (last pattern in my second-most recent post in this thread). Here's an alternate idea for the bottom which involves activating beacons instead of long snakes which has some promise:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
11b2o2b2o$6b2o4bo2bo4b2o$6bobobo6bobobo$9b10o2$bo2bo4b2ob4ob2o4bo2bo$

5b3o6bo$5bo2b2o2bobobo3bo$9bo2bobobo4bo$13b3o$14bo! [[ STOP 9 ]]
To be able to fit the above, the southern-part of the activation of the pythons (see the first pattern in this post) will probably have to be modified. Here's a list of a few ways that the pythons can be activated:

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
2b2o9b2ob2o$2bobobo6b2obobobo$o4b2o4bo7b2o8$2b2o$obobobo$5b2o!
Edit: Nice synthesis for the bottom found with assistance from LLS. It easily fits with the top but unfortunately activating the pythons isn't so easy. It should be possible though especially if the insertion of the phi-spark predecessor doesn't require gliders coming from the south:

Code: Select all

x = 38, y = 40, rule = B3/S23

For example, turning the red cells on at generation 55 (and clearing some of the junk in the north) would result in a working final synthesis for 56P6H1V0:

Final step for 56P6H1V0! Over on the Discord, Kazyan found the key step of "activating" the pythons and with a bit of help with the cleanup from others I was able to put together this final step:

Code: Select all

The base still-life is pretty huge but I suspect its synthesis should be fairly easy in comparison with the task of finding the final step.
