Requests for Searches - Non-apgsearch

Post by AforAmpere » January 1st, 2019, 11:17 pm

This is a thread to post whatever requests you have for searches (using search programs) in any rule. An example request would be something along the lines of: "Can someone please search for a (11,1)c/13 with LLS?" or "Can someone run a width 14 even-symmetry gfind search in Morley for C/8?" This is a place to put those requests.
I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

It is quite unfortunate that no one used this thread until now.

Anyway, I am looking for a spaceship in B1e2ci3ejkqy4aceiqrt5ceiy6ckn78/S012ckn3ceiy4ceinrtw5-jnqr6-a78, the rule emulated by 2-generation steps of Margolus in B03/S5. I don't care what speed or search program you use, but c orthogonal seems most likely.

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 10, rule = B1e2ci3ejkqy4aceiqrt5ceiy6ckn78/S012ckn3ceiy4ceinrtw5-jnqr6-a78

As an alternating BCC rule (calling them Margolus rules is not very correct since the actual Margolus rulespace is somewhat more diverse), it's 12p4|2o4. (2p is ob$bo, 2o is 2b$2o)

Sorry for self-promoting, but anyone want to spend their spare CPU time and search c/3 in Breps-2?

What does that mean?

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3-q4z5y/S234k5j

12p4=Birth on 1, 2 opposite, or 4 neighbors (B1c2a4wS3a4q8 with 2x2 block patterns) 2o4=Birth on 2 adjacent or 4 neighbors (B3iS5i8 with 2x2 block patterns) and the | indicates an alternating rule
However, I apparently missed the fact that both phases also have B3, so it should be 12p34|2o34 (with B5aS6a7c added to the above Moore rulestrings)

Can someone run ntzfind or something on Immortalife?
Prioritize speeds c/10, c/3, c/4, c/11, c/12

Code: Select all

B3-cqy4j/S2-n34i
I found a few horrible c/10, c/12 partials

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 14, rule = B3-cqy4j/S2-n34i
b2o2b2o$o2bob2o$b2o2b2o9$b2o2bo$o2bobo$b2o2bo!
#C[[ T 10 PAUSE 1 T 12 PAUSE 1 ]]
Also see c/11 partial

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 3, rule = B3-cqy4j/S2-n34i
b2o3bo$o2bob2o$b2o3bo!
#C[[ T 11 PAUSE 1 ]]

But honestly look for other speeds too

Thanks!
By the way, some of those were pairs of non-interacting ships.

A while ago, there was an attempt at 5s to find a 9c/10 orthogonal ship. Attached is the longest partial found, by wildmyron (See original thread). I think that running ntzfind in the rule may complete this partial. (It is symmetrical with width 21.)

There is none at minimum period within a 20*19 bounding box, if LLS is working correctly. The fact that it reached this conclusion so quickly suggests that this will be extremely hard. Try ntzfind.

I think I had a go at this a while ago and reached a similar conclusion. I had another attempt with ntzfind and didn't find anything at width 11 with bilateral symmetry for p4. Some of the partials suggest to me that the speed is allowed in this rule, just any such ship will be rather large. In addition there's this tiny c/2 in a nearby rule with B5i and S5y.

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 3, rule = B2c3-j5i/S2aen3aejk5y

<snip rle>
That's a good idea, but unfortunately ntzfind doesn't work at that speed. I'm not sure what the limits actually are - I thought it was c/2, but a bit of experimentation shows that it works (at least in some cases) for 3c/4, 3c/5, 4c/6, 5c/8, 6c/10.

Possibly the non-totalistic version of gfind may work, but I don't trust it is reliable at high velocities.

I'm not sure about the correctness either, but gfind does seem to work for speeds between c/2 and c. At light speed gfind can only find p1 photons. I ran a gfind search for 9c/10 in B2acn3aenr4-cinq5aek6cin7e8/S12i3-cnr4kqwy5ckny6-e78. The search tree seems to just completely peter out beyond about 7 rows, by which I mean that increasing the search width (up to the maximum of a full width of 55) results in almost no increase to the maximum depth reached (which was about 70, or 7 rows).

To find such a ship I can see two possibilities:
1) Scan the rulespace where this frontend works and hope that a gfind search in one of those candidate rules turns up a result. This would require a bit of work to polish ntgfind to a point where it can be programmatically run without being manually built for every rule (and also adapting the get_all_iso_rules script to ignore the chaos at the back of the ship).
2) Adapt LLS to simplify iterated searching for successively longer partials (a bit like ikpx, but not so rigid).

I'm currently running a gfind search for c/2, p4 with odd symmetry at width 37, which I expect will run overnight. The width 35 search was unsuccessful, but did find partials of length 45 rows (depth 180). I didn't save partials for that search but I am for the current search, so if there's no ship then there will at least be a long partial.

A power surge killed all my LLS searches. I now request that it be carried out for finding spaceships of the following speeds for 5s:
  • (7,1)c/8
  • 12c/31d
  • (7,3)c/17
  • 12c/20 (3 cells)
(There were two more searches, but I forgot what they were.)

That is very unfortunate. The lack of check-pointing in LLS is a significant drawback to using it for hard search problems.

I don't think I'll attempt the first one at this time, and the last one is no longer needed - it was included in the latest update (found in one of my matchPatt2 searches).
