Anyone who has ever tried to search for interactions that do something "useful" and then fit them together has probably run into more failures than successes. It can be really frustrating... something looks like a stable reflector, but it displaces a starting block a little... an output glider that you want crashes into an input glider or debris (sometimes you're lucky and you don't want the glider or debris, but that's not a blooper).
For a visual example, here's a p30 gun candidate that looks like it works until it self-destructs (old, known). You could probably fill up an hour of video with these kinds of things at a watchable pace of 20 steps/second.
