Life blooper reel?

I am putting it in Sandbox, but actually I think it could be a serious project, just more on the creative side than analytical side.

Anyone who has ever tried to search for interactions that do something "useful" and then fit them together has probably run into more failures than successes. It can be really frustrating... something looks like a stable reflector, but it displaces a starting block a little... an output glider that you want crashes into an input glider or debris (sometimes you're lucky and you don't want the glider or debris, but that's not a blooper).

For a visual example, here's a p30 gun candidate that looks like it works until it self-destructs (old, known). You could probably fill up an hour of video with these kinds of things at a watchable pace of 20 steps/second.

You could present it like the famous failed aviation experiments film. For a good blooper, it does have to look like it is about to succeed though, not just explode.

Honestly, what did you expect? It’s asymmetric, so it can’t stabilize itself with a gutter.

@Gustone: A fine blooper - very fitting for this thread. I was truly beginning to think it would stabilise in some way - a boring P2 ship was my expectation - and then... Poof!

@Moosey: I don't understand your comment, there's no shortage of asymmetric puffers with P2 frontends, and many of them have gutters near to the frothy end
The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

That’s true. I mean, it does go for a while rather uncharacteristic of CGoL. After watching again, it reminds me of one of those asymmetric failed puffer things in a rule along the lines of B3/S23-a4i

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.
