Re: Catagolue Oddities
What does that symmetry code even mean? Is it two 1x256 lines with one empty row between them? Catagolue loads the sample soup as if it's just a regular 16x16 soup.

Remove all the dollar signs, paste at 0,0, paste reflected at 256,0.

Here's one.
EDIT:
EDIT 2: Try posting a blank comment on this page.
EDIT 3: Try out the special new input field at the very bottom of this page.
EDIT 4: You should know better by now.
EDIT 5: https://catagolue.appspot.com/object?ap ... e=%3C%21--
The Chrome XSS auditor is actually very good — it doesn't let me do anything that would have the potential to compromise the site itself that I've found. Not that that's what I'm trying to do, of course.

Changing the rule to Catagolue has an interesting effect, strange.
EDIT: This one just does not work. Oddly, the link does not show up in the URL tags properly.

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.
Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

Re: Catagolue Oddities
I'm not sure deliberately messing with the site's structure-code counts as a Catagolue oddity.

That's a nice one — getting Catagolue to generate a hacked link to itself.AforAmpere wrote:Changing the rule to Catagolue has an interesting effect, strange.
Also: This url isn't caught by Chrome's XSS auditor. Maybe it's time for @Calcyman to implement good input sanitization? — this could possibly be used to actually hack the site. For reference, here is the rule used:
Code: Select all
b3s23"); alert("Hello!
The constraints of the format do mean that only a restricted subset of JavaScript can be injected, where b, s, uppercase letters, /, &, and ? are disallowed, if I'm reasoning right. However, this would seem to still be enough to do potential damage to the site.

Somehow, when you hover over the blue links, it shows that the link URL is the formatting of the page:

That tilted rule hack is pretty nice.

I noticed something strange: B3/S23/C1 gets hauls every few minutes. But isn't that rate too fast? I thought hauls shouldn't be submitted that fast.
Re: Catagolue Oddities
You should stop. BlockFlood brings nothing interesting or exciting to the table at all, it's just a spam symmetry. At least Saka_Test tests things with the website, while this rule seems to be about spamming the leaderboards. I'm all for rules gaining lots of soups (I kept searching Snowflakes for that reason), but this 'symmetry' does nothing good for the site whatsoever.wwei23 wrote:Thanks!Majestas32 wrote:BlockFloodTest is on the way to overtaking B3s23/C1. Plus, I recall calcyman saying something about rules overtaking Life breaking the website, and he's most likely had enough of your shenanigans.
I thought you were trying to get better, wwei. :/
Re: Catagolue Oddities
Yes, the barcharts on user pages search for the largest 20 backup censuses (which is possible because there's a size index) and assume that they're the last 20 backups of b3s23/C1. So if the object count is surpassed by another rule, this will get messed up. Similarly, if the number of objects in b3s23/C1 ever decreases (e.g. as a result of a correction haul), then the dates at the bottom may appear in an unusual order.danny wrote:Plus, I recall calcyman saying something about rules overtaking Life breaking the website, and he's most likely had enough of your shenanigans.
Doing things properly would require another search index, using more disk space.
So if a census ever becomes larger than b3s23/C1, you better not make a backup of it.
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!
Re: Catagolue Oddities
I don’t need to back it up, because it’s an All Block. Get it?calcyman wrote:Yes, the barcharts on user pages search for the largest 20 backup censuses (which is possible because there's a size index) and assume that they're the last 20 backups of b3s23/C1.
