Nice! Somewhat along the lines of this memory-cell request, the beehive can store a bit of memory. It's not toggleable like a boat-bit or semi-Snark, but it can be SET any number of times before a READ signal comes along, without any extra circuitry needed -- unlike the bistable switch needed here, for example. Also, prepending the usual H-to-pi gives us a rare NE output glider on a new lane, NE33T141 -- always good to have more of those, especially when the optional standard NW19T102 and NW36T325 outputs are also available.

Yup, SW3T118 is a new one I think. After Golly 3.0 comes out I'll have to get back to fixing up the H-to-G collection and put out a new version. (I had been hoping somebody else might want to take over that maintenance task...)

This is a G5 output that comes really close to being a perfect ambidextrous transmitter for the old G5 receiver -- three ticks too fast. So I guess I was looking for SW3T121:

But really I should probably just forget about glider-pair signals, or put all those clunky awkward transceivers and things into a separate Steampunk Life collection or something. They're kind of entertaining to build things with, but it doesn't seem as if they'll ever show up again in any quantity in (let's say) the smallest-guns collection.

One possible exception might be a loaf2GtoG attachment pointing NW, which might give a useful timing somehow in some situation or other. But it will generally have to shoot through the input conduit, so probably that belongs in Steampunk Life as well. Because of the order of the output gliders, the adjustable SE output isn't anything new:

I believe these are all the elementary H-to-G conduits found since then, the first two discovered by Kazyan, the rest of the first row by AbhpzTa, and the second row by simeks: Code: Select all x = 851, y = 178, rule = LifeHistory 399.D3.D.D3.D2.3D4.D3.5D3.D4.3D3.3D$399.2D2.D.D3.D.D3.D2.2D5.D4.2D3.D

I'm not sure where I first figured it out, but basically, that transparent beehive mechanism works on many perturbations of a honey farm. This particular iteration came up by investigating some CatForce outputs of 2 catalysts on a Herschel (though only 1 is really necessary to see the honey farm--just the block catalyst will do the trick), then tinkering around with that honey farm explosion. At some point I gave the beehive-and-eater a shot, and then did cleanup duty. The SE5T23 output is borrowed from other H-to-G's with the same lower evolution, to give the conduit a more useful second output than just an FNG.

EDIT: Smaller p581, with a bounding box of 76*68 (5168). I think further gun building can be done with this H-to-3G, but it'll go in the gun thread and not be done my me.

Seems as if it might have a workable geometry to reduce the glider-to-2c/3-wire converter a little more. (We could do something similar with just a Snark, if we could just suppress one or the other of the NW gliders, but there's no known eater that's highway-robber-like enough to manage that trick. On the other hand, we *can* do a somewhat equivalent trick with just a Snark, with any odd-lane-offset tandem glider emitter, G3 or wider. Like this G9 for example, or the new G7... so probably the above is all a bit of a stretch to try to make the G1 output look like it's more useful than it will really turn out to be in practice.)

I forget -- is there a known way to suppress that familiar-looking SE glider output, so that this H-to-G1 could be attached directly to a syringe?

It's nice that there's a SE glider output. We're getting to have lots of H-to-G options, but not so many H-to-2Gs or H-to-3Gs. This one won't win any prizes for compactness, I suppose, but it's good to have it in the toolkit.

I don't think so--the glider can be suppressed, but not without bumping into the syringe catalyst. Some intermediate conduit is going to be necessary, I think.

That's a fairly nice compact converter. Let's see, we don't have any particular uses for G7 tandem gliders, do we? There isn't anything in the Elementary Conduits collection, anyway. I spent some time trying to convince myself that the H-to-G1 a few posts up was useful as a way of producing any color of output glider, because of semi-cenarks' ability to accept G1 tandem gliders. But now it occurs to me that any G{odd}, like this H-to-G7, can do basically the same thing by just moving around a regular eater and a plain old Snark: Code: Select all x = 110, y = 48, rule = LifeHistory 20.A59.A$18.3A57.3A$17.A59.A$17.2A58.2A$15.4B23.2A31.4B23.2A$14.3B24.

So it seems like it might possibly be worth adding the very smallest H-to-G0s and H-to-G1s plus semi-cenarks to the H-to-G collection, but even moderately large H-to-G(n) are going to end up too bulky to be very useful once the semi-cenarks are added:

Nice to have another one of these!

We're getting quite close to being able to start with a Herschel and put a NE glider in any possible sufficiently faraway spacetime location to the right, by adding just three components:

either
-- an SW-2 Herschel-to-glider converter plus a couple of Snarks, or
-- one of the G0/G1/G2 tandem-glider converters plus one of the semi-Snarks and a regular Snark, in one order or other (it doesn't always matter, but sometimes it makes a 4-tick difference).

... In fact, we might well be there already. Anyone interested in doing a little stamp-collecting?

Nice find!
That H-to-G0 has the interesting property of being able to encode which ones of two signals that are present.
Not sure how it can be used, but it's close to an OR-device:

Not sure how it can be used, but it's close to an OR-device... More like an XOR, isn't it? At one point I was looking for a direct "exact-timing OR", which would be basically a "glider keeper" along the same lines as a block-keeper. But this mechanism is a toggle -- it puts a glider in a certain spacetime location if it isn't there, or takes it away if it is there. It's a bit awkward having to deal with the initial first-natural-glider output on the same lane, though. Usually you won't be able to simply run the output through a semi-Snark after the XOR operation, because you won't know how many signals there are. Can anyone think of an existing (simpler?) mechanism that can manage an exact-timing XOR? Obviously we could split the input Herschel and send a signal somewhere to build a spark or a temporary block or something to absorb that first natural glider, but that's going to make the circuit too big and awkward. EDIT: It turns out we just have to prepend one conduit, an Lx86. It absorbs the Herschel's first natural glider but is transparent to following gliders on half a dozen lanes including that one. simeks Posts: 369 Joined: March 11th, 2015, 12:03 pm Location: Sweden ### Re: H-to-G and H-to-Gn converter collection New H-to-G, NE13T-7: Code: Select all x = 50, y = 80, rule = LifeHistory 9.D3.D.5D3.D4.3D2.5D7.5D$9.2D2.D.D6.2D3.D3.D3.D13.D$9.D.D.D.D7.D7.D3. Nice one! According to the H-to-G stamp collection, which admittedly is a couple of years old and someone should really take it over and get it back up to date -- (and organize it better somehow so the H-to-2Gs and edge shooters and transparent-lane outputs can be found a little more easily) -- there haven't been any 13's in the collection at all until now, let alone any NE13s. There are relatively few rows in the table in the -15 to +50 range for which that's still true. dvgrn Moderator Posts: 7166 Joined: May 17th, 2009, 11:00 pm Location: Madison, WI Contact: ### Re: H-to-G and H-to-Gn converter collection Here's an SE22T41 to go with the known SE22T-8, from praosylen on Discord: Code: Select all x = 47, y = 50, rule = LifeHistory 3.3D2.5D2.3D3.3D2.5D4.D4.D$2.D3.D.D5.D3.D.D3.D3.D5.2D3.2D$2.D5.D9.D5.
