Could someone find a very fast spaceship in a rule that could be simulated in Golly, please?
I was so socially awkward in the past and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Check out the help under "Set Rule" with the Larger Than Life algorithm selected.

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

Since Andrew was writing a whole new algorithm for golly he wanted to keep it simple at first. He says that maybe in the full release infonite grids will be supported.

Some LtL rules contain very slow spaceships, like this speed 2/1846 diagonal spaceship in a range-10 rule, which I found in 2002. (This is included in the new Golly distribution.)

Dean, is there a trick to find good "blobby" rules? The dynamics interest me. Are there any slower bugs-ish ships??

Tiny script to calculate the number of neighbors of a given rule. I know, I know, the algorithm for von Neumann is unnecessarily big and long but it works.

The only method I know of is to start with an interesting rule and then make small changes to the birth and survival limits, or change the range. If you change the range from r0 to r1, then the birth and survival limits should be multiplied by (2*r1+1)^2 / (2*r0+1)^2, approximately.

Often the modified rule will have somewhat similar dynamics, although the existence of a slow spaceship (or any other type of interesting object) in the original rule is no guarantee that the new one will have something similar.

I wonder, will we ever get neighbourhoods larger than 50? I personally doubt it, because it would be kinda messy and unwieldy to work with
