Some pre pulsar shuttles I made using grey cells. Nothing too notable, unless you can somehow do the extendible 3-traffic light long one without grey cells

It's pretty, but I think the sparks are too confined to be useful. My drifter search program found it in 1997 or 1998; see my "New billiard tables" collection.

My first post here, I'm new to the Life community online. Is there some easy way to find out if my pattern has been found already? Perhaps pasting RLE code into something which searches an existing database? I'm afraid I know nothing about what resources are at my disposal, so if anyone could reply or PM me about it that would be nice. :)

Here is a (new?) p4 which consists of 2 Heavyweight Emulators hassling a Stairstep Hexomino predecessor. It can be extended since the spark is equal on the other side.

Code: Select all

x = 44, y = 33, rule = B3/S23

2o!
EDIT: Since I don't know if this is previously discovered, does that mean it belongs in the "unsure" thread? I don't really understand the difference since they seem to overlap a lot from what I've seen...

I can't search for it right now because the internet is screwing up, you should probably try. It tends to cut off larger patterns though

My search page is primarily for patterns that are actually detailed on my web pages themselves - specifically, exhaustive lists of small objects, and some selective larger ones for which syntheses have been developed, so it won't find most larger objects, especially things like arbitrary stator variants of smaller objects, combinations of multiple oscillators, etc. The next version (which is close to completion) will also provide direct links to Catagolue pages for the respective objects.

Here's a p24 oscillator that one of my drifter searches found:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 15, rule = B3/S23
5bo$5b3o$8bo$7bo3bo$3b2obo3bobo$2bobob2ob2obo$bo2bo8b2o$bobob8o2bo$2ob
obo8b2o$3bobobob2o$3bobobobobo$4b2obo3bo$6bob3o$6bobo$7bo!
The upper right part is p6. Changing just one cell makes the upper part stable and the lower part p7:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 15, rule = B3/S23
5bo$5b3o$8bo$7bo3bo$3b2obo3bobo$2bobob5obo$bo2bo8b2o$bobob8o2bo$2obobo
8b2o$3bobobob2o$3bobobobobo$4b2obo3bo$6bob3o$6bobo$7bo!
With a smaller stator, this p7 is already known. The p24 is also related to 2 other known oscillators, with periods 10 and 17. Here all 4 are shown; note that the lower left part of the p24 is like the p7 in gens 0-16, like the p10 in gens 14-26, and like the p17 in gens 7-33. Basically, the p17 does a p7 cycle and a p10 cycle, and the p24 does 2 p7 cycles and a p10 cycle. I wonder if there are any larger period oscillators like these.

This quickly turns into two siamese candelabras. The two rotors are independent of each other.

It can also be smaller:

^ Am I the only one who finds it strangely pleasing to see stators reduced?

No, I like to try my hand at that as well. Enough to download the entire B3/S234 oscillator collection and attempt to reduce everything I possibly could.

Ooh, you're going to enjoy the (similar) rule I'll be posting tonight then. Out of curiosity, were you able to reduce many?

EDIT: The evening got away from me and I may postpone it until tomorrow. Not that it matters to anybody, I just don't want to lie. :P

Check the B3/S234 thread. The updated version is under my latest post, the original is in the first post.
I probably reduced around a hundred oscillators.
(Apologies to everyone else for getting offtopic)

P12 oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 20, rule = B3S23
5b2o$5bobo$7bo$7b2o7b2o$9bo5bobo$7b2obo4bobob2o$6bo3bo3b2obob2o$5bo2b
2ob2o4bo$4bob2obobob5o$4bo2bobo$5bo3bob7o$3bobobobo7bo$b3obobobob4obo
3b2o$o4bobob2o4b2obo2bo$b3obob2o3b2o4b2o$3b2o5b2obob2obo$11bobobo2bo$
11bobobo2bobo$9bobob2o4b2o$9b2o!
Is it possible to get a signal out of it ?
Still drifting.
