A new H-to-G3, with a very close-spaced salvo:

I was looking for a more direct one, but that looks like a long shot :roll: Nice to see those heisenburps! I hope that the latter would be a little more slow-salvo friendly although I would not want to build them...

The above B-to-Pi appears to only be usable as a transparent B-to-G with the pi output cut off before it can even appear:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 29, rule = LifeHistory
15.B$10.7B6.2C$8.11B3.C2BC$8.8BC3B.BCBCB$8.7BCBC5BC2B$B6.7BC2BC6B$2B

2C$6.15B.B2C$6.14B3.B$6.16B$7.11B2.2C$9.8B3.C$9.7B5.3C$10.6B7.C$9.6B$
9.6B$10.4B$8.2CB$7.C.CB$7.C$6.2C!
No known pi conduits are able to be hooked up, not even a Pi->G or the quick Pi->B turn that is useful when Pi outputs are uncomfortably close to the previous conduit's catalysts.

However, it might be able to restore this block and create a new B-to-H:

Code: Select all

x = 34, y = 29, rule = LifeHistory
14.B$9.7B6.2A$7.11B3.A2BA$7.8BA3B.BABAB$7.7BABA5BA2B$6.7BA2BA6B$B3.2B

D$5.16B2E7BDBD$5.16B2E7B3DB$5.27BD$6.25B$8.8B3.B.3B.B$8.7B$9.6B$8.6B$
8.6B$9.4B$7.2AB$6.A.AB$6.A$5.2A!
EDIT: Also, I know that there's a simple and fast MWSS->H in the form of a syringe plus the tiny MWSS->G, but it seems like it may be possible to get one with a faster signal output (probably trading off for a higher repeat time) with this:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 9, rule = LifeHistory
.5C$C4.C$5.C$C3.C$2.C2$10.2C$9.C2.C$10.2C!

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. To add, this would be a plus if the MWSS -> H is (semi-)spartan.

It's possible to cut that repeat time in half (to 130) using that L156 variant, though it adds a Snark so it's less Spartan:

Code: Select all

EDIT: I was hoping to pick up some alternate cleanup lanes for a glider, with a Spartan trick like this:

Code: Select all

x = 34, y = 48, rule = LifeHistory
33.B$32.2B$21.2E8.3B$20.B2CB6.4B$19.4B6.C3B$20.2B6.C3B$20.3B4.B3C$12.

14.3B3D2B$14.4BD3B$14.2B3D2B$14.7B$15.6B!
Unfortunately it looks like that lane works fine without the G-to-block, and I don't see any other likely candidates for that mechanism.

It would be great if this reaction gave the best of both worlds, but alas, no:

How about using Simkin's B-to-B to turn the B upwards closer and faster?After all, the hive is symmetrical...
I tried a few options that Hersrch doesn't know about, in hopes of a lucky connection, but nothing worked out very well. Here are some examples:

So far Calcyman's is still the only Spartan connection that needs less than 1000 ticks to recover -- 958 to be specific.

I suspect there's a slightly faster circuit out there using known Spartan conduits, but it will be hard to find without a new Elemsrch search program. It's tricky to teach Hersrch about the new B-to-B, for example -- it assumes that every connection starts and ends with an H, so you have to register a lot of new composite conduits.

I posted a spartan one of repeat time 497 and an almost-spartan one with repeat time 157:

Right -- sorry, that was muddy thinking on my part. I should have said something like "the only Spartan connection that Hersrch can find" -- i.e., using the leftover beehive as a bait instead of just shooting it down.

The Spartan Silver-reflector G-to-M can be simplified a little at the cost of letting the repeat time drift up to 575:

I consider it spartan, but if eater2s don't count, at least they're not horribly hard to construct, now that 4-SL seeds exist.

Sure, there's always a way. Without a lot of luck, it will end up bigger than the existing H-to-LWSS, because you have to synchronize a glider instead of just pre-setting a block.

Unfortunately, even though the one-chance-in-sixteen improbably lined up perfectly on the first connection I tried, we're not quite that lucky. There's no room to adjust the Snarks:

Wow! The timing on those two gliders really takes the prize for serendipitous synchronization. Who knows when it will actually end up being useful, but it's definitely one for the collection anyway.

You might not have noticed, but Kazyan that reply you made (the one above this) is the 666th one on this thread.

There was some chatter regarding the possibility of reducing some glider guns with the new mechanism, but to be honest that isn't going to happen.

Slightly off-topic, but the weld for the Fx158 can be reduced by 4 in population:

I'm not sure how easy it would be to slow-salvo construct either of the two forms, however.

I think conduits are optimized by bounding box... Although I am not sure if bounding box is more important than simplicity of catalysts... (Bounding box of each is only important when the relevant part is on the edge)

A new H-to-G with timing NW17T90, which is a known lane and mod-8 timing. It is however smaller and faster than the previous NW17T130, although not very spartan. It seems to be the smallest H-to-G so far with a NW glider:

Finally, the first dependent Herschel receiver (that can only accept gliders from this g6) But sadly I can't find a way to use that B...

That's definitely good enough to earn it a place in the elementary-conduits collection -- there's a whole range of output-Herschel spacetime locations that can't be efficiently reached any other way.

(If you get far enough down the diagonal you start being able to hit the same spacetime locations with a 2c/3 wire plus a little custom circuitry, but that's just silly.) (It's still high time to see how much smaller a 2c/3 transceiver can be made, though, in this brave new world of syringes and Snarks.)

Inspired by Kazyan's idea, I'm running a search for a G2 receiver with this pattern:
It hasn't found anything with spartan catalysts though. Maybe someone else would like to have a try:

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 19, rule = B3/S23
