I already know they are not conduits but post them in hopes someone can help me.
As I want to know how to use scripts and search to make real discoveries!

Okay. That's a good goal, but there's a possible problem.

The first time you run a long search, say with ptbsearch or with catgl, it might take hours or days to finish its work.

The search program might report somewhere between 100 and 10,000 candidates. Almost every one of those will be at least as good as the last several "almost-X-to-Y" reactions that you've posted. Most of them will be a lot better -- at least, none of the catalysts will be destroyed immediately. The search program tries to make sure of that.

But still 99% of those candidate results from ptbsearch or catgl will turn out not to do anything useful. It's a really hard job to find the 1% or 0.1% of good results in among all the junk. Sometimes it will be 0% -- nothing good to be found on that search, so you have to run a new one.

Anyway, so you'll have to understand really clearly what you're looking for. So far you seem to believe that every new thing you see is a promising almost-conduit. That's not going to be true, for you or anyone. If it were very easy to do this kind of search, then everything would have been found already.

Carefully read other people's comments above, and learn to recognize good conduits from bad ones for yourself. Otherwise you won't be able to find the good results in among the hundreds of "almost" conduits in your search output. It won't work to just post 1000 candidates to this thread and ask for help. At best, that would really be someone else making the discovery.

And one more time: if you want a real discovery, you could try again to get past Step 3 of the LWSS-to-G walkthrough. That problem is at least a hundred times easier than finding a new signal conduit.

The loop you have there is much too big to be an effective LWSS-->G. The longer the loop, the more time the signal takes to get around to the boat. And to beat 556 ticks, you don't have that much time.

Instead, try to find a conduit or two that reflect a Herschel in a B or Bx manner; this will allow you to position the syringe's input glider close to the output of the reaction, without using too many Snarks. Dvgrn's second component is a good start, but its input glider has the wrong color.

EDIT: Also, I notice you haven't used exactly the same form of the Bx167 conduit from the pattern in Step 3 -- there's a piece missing, that I don't think I've seen you use yet. There's a tub-with-tail eater in my version of the Bx167, that catches and eats an extra glider from the side.

And the other sample conduit I quoted in Step 3 is an L112. Have you tried making a short connecting loop with that?

For example, I have notifications set for the threads that I'm interested in. If someone finds something new related to that topic, I'm really interested to go see what it is... but for a while there, when I would go and look, it would turn out to be you just "bumping" the thread, no new information.

It changes the glider's color. Anyway have you already seen the WinBellman GUI I posted days ago?

In other words, if you change the glider's color twice, you end up with the original color again. But half the time, to make a syringe connect to your Herschel input, a color-changing conduit is exactly what you need anyway.

You can tell whether a conduit is color-changing or not by looking at the center cell of the input and output Herschels, using Golly. Point at each center cell and look at the coordinates. If they add up to an even number, that's one color. If they add up to an odd number that's the other color. No point in calling the two colors BLACK and WHITE, really, might as well just call them EVEN and ODD.

Anyway, one of the luckiest things about the old 1990's Herschel conduit collection is that there's a color-changing left turn and a color-preserving left turn. if the L156 turn doesn't work, you can try the L112, and vice versa:

I should have said: really good in terms of trying new things, and not getting stuck on one idea. Also there finally aren't any big loops with Snarks that use up a lot of time for no reason. The two Snarks in this last pattern are just where they need to be to make the connection -- there's no way to optimize them.

There are two little things wrong with the pattern, both having to do with the Bx167 conduit at the top. Its two output gliders are out of control, but it's easy to fix with eaters -- one fishhook, and one tub-with-tail eater, as I mentioned.

But you don't have to worry about fixing that version -- save the fixes for the record breaker. Suppose your LWSS->G circuit didn't use any Snarks at all. Could the connection still be made? You still have a degree of freedom to play with, moving the Snark closer or farther away from the LWSS+boat collision point.

Yeah, don't try to use that first conduit -- it's not quite compatible with the one you're connecting it to, or at least not with that variant of it. See how a glider shows up early on, and happens to get caught and turned into a boat?

If you got rid of that boat, the eater would work, and then you'd get a little bit farther.

Then you found a solution for your G4 eater problem, but it doesn't look like it quite fits in the space you have.

But the worst problem is that it's very difficult to connect anything at all to the input B-heptomino for that first conduit. Most output B's don't fit, for one reason or another.

So just avoid that conduit altogether -- it's poison. You really only need ones that I've already posted, anyway.

The signal interacts with the catalyst a few ticks before it actually becomes a Herschel, so the pattern shown there is what it looks like 6 ticks before the Herschel. Add two more ticks after those 6, and you get a pi out.

Again, though, you can't use that for most connections. It only works in special cases, because the pi comes out very close to the catalyst and will destroy it unless another catalyst interrupts the pi explosion pretty quickly.

That doesn't quite connect, though -- the output and input gliders don't line up. (I'm sure you know that.)

This is the kind of connection problem that can be solved by a search program -- in particular Hersrch. Have you tried running that yet?

Hersrch will definitely get a record-setting answer for you here, if you set up the problem correctly. I think you don't actually need Hersrch to solve this particular problem, though.

It didn't look like you followed this advice -- at least, I didn't see any L conduits connected to your old standard Bx167 plus H-to-boat. That combination was a lot more efficient-looking than this incredibly big slow 90-degree turn conduit that you've put in before the H-to-boat, in this latest attempt.

Again, suppose you have an L112 or an L156 as part of a Herschel conduit, and you attach a syringe at the beginning.

If the input glider turns out to be the wrong color, then all you have to do is switch to the other L conduit, leave everything else the same, and that's guaranteed to fix the glider color problem. You might still need Snarks to bounce the glider around to get to the right place... or you might not!

If you're still having trouble making a really small loop connecting conduits by hand, let's get you started on setting up a Hersrch search that you can run to automatically find the smallest solution.

Well, it's a good thought, but that would be going off on a wild tangent.

The record-setting LWSS-to-G could be smaller than your "Silver reflector plus some Snarks".

Why catch a glider on a beehive-with-tail, instead of just a plain snake or aircraft carrier or eater or something?

But to answer your question: paste that pattern that you just posted, into one of your working LWSS-to-G circuits, replacing the H-to-boat converter.

Line up the boat so that it's in the same location, and so that the glider has a clear path to get in there so the boat-bit can actually be created.

Now try to hit that with an LWSS, same as before. What happens?

-- Bad things happen. Your beehive-with-tail blows up. You need to keep more space clear around the boat. So that reaction won't work.

Worth noting, Chrome refuses to download the file linked, saying it "is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous." You can choose 'keep' but it's a little hidden on the side menu.
