First, if you advance both of these 3 generations, they arrive at exactly the same point, so the same junk IS in the same place in both of them. Second, these aren't really "collisions" as such, because the gliders could never get to the positions shown, as they would have interacted with the blocks 3 generations earlier (not to mention the fact that the 3 blocks aren't stable together). On the other hand, if you really want to construct this object, you could do so by starting with a a similar object with a boat in place of the glider, and then turn the boat into a glider:Saka wrote:Take a look at these two collisions:Code: Select all

What is the preferred method to access the database? Via the script, or directly, i.e. /object?apgcode=<code>&rule=<rule> or /object/<code>/<rule> ? I've added code into the search page of my web site (in the next version) to provide direct links from searched objects to their corresponding Cataglue pages, but I can change the syntax to use the script method if that is preferable.calcyman wrote:Why are people putting a plus before the ampersand? Using LifeHistory in this way provides nice coloration to make the glider gun visible, but it makes cutting and pasting difficult, since when converting to QuickLife, Golly converts both white living cells and blue dead cells to living.

This synthesis method was known before, although I think it's buried deep in the soup search topic. Bob's collection of 5-glider syntheses (found here) contains an alternate solution:mniemiec wrote:This leads to this 5-glider synthesis, which is better than the previous 7-glider one (unless Bob Shemyakin has found a smaller one)
