This is actually an integral with tub, or a tub with nine. Siamese would mean that both the tub and the eater were completely present in the pattern, albeit sharing parts, but this is not the case as the tail of the eater has been replaced by a tub.

This is just the debris left over from the evolution of the R-pentomino. Sorry, but the only way this could possibly be made into a spaceship is if the gliders produced could trigger the exact same reaction and entirely clean up the surrounding debris, which seems highly unlikely.

While this is useless, it IS interesting, as reactions that produce ash that consists entirely of one kind of object are worthy of note. This is exactly the kind of thing that is on-topic for the Useless Discoveries topic - things that don't have any practical applications, but are, nevertheless, interesting to look at in their own right.

Yes, I think that everyone on these forums knows the barber pole, and this particular reaction has been known for 40+ years, and is the very natural reaction of removing one end of it, I can't imagine anyone who doesn't already know this.

Also, your Code block here was broken, because it was not closed. Whenever you post here, you should hit the Preview button first, to see if the post will look the way it's supposed to, and if it doesn't (e.g. Quote and Code tags are not properly matched), you can catch the error and fix it before it is posted. How? A reaction of a glider displacing a block obliquely with a non-catalyst tub-siamese-eater.

This is, roughly speaking, similar to the real-life situation "I have a rock. If you put a museum ten feet away from the rock, and blow up the museum, you get a rock 100 feet away. Museums can be used as rocket propellants to move rocks!". This is rubbish; all that happened is you have a new piece of rubble that has come off the corner of the museum, not the old one translated. Besides which, this is an VERY expensive way to move a rock, just as your idea is a VERY expensive way to move a block.

It would be MUCH cheaper to use three gliders (one to demolish the block, and two more to place a totally new block anywhere you want), rather than to use 4+ gliders to create the integral-with-tub, and then another glider to turn it into a block.

Please run Bellman to replace the tub-siamese-block with catalysts, please! I don't know how to do it, and even if I knew, I don't have Python and can't due to a bug running MSI (error 2203)! Just do it...

Other people have more important thing to do, than to run complicated searches on your behalf, to make totally useless and impractical reactions work. If you don't know how a tool works, take the time to learn it, the way the rest of us have done. If you have problems installing Python, you should consult online Python-related foums.

Either way, you can also help by indicating a synth of the tub-siamese-eater... so I can add just the gliders that do the still life, then another glider to do the reaction and tadaa! A pure-glider reaction would come...

You already have the necessary tools to be able to find this for yourself. The LifeWiki has syntheses for many objects. I recently gave you the link to my life web page, which contains over 10000 syntheses, which can be searched by object type, population, oscillator period, etc. and even now has a search facility that can search for object by name, or by image - either by cells, or by RLE. It should take little effort to find what you are looking for. Let your fingers do the walking, instead of asking others to do it for you. Only ask for help if you have already searched available sources for something, and couldn't find it.

This is just an R-pentomino. The junk is not really useful, and the number of gliders needed to clean this junk up and leave only the beehive would be enormous, making this fairly useless.

Error 2203 is an "access denied" type error. I'm sure it's frustrating, but it's probably not a bug. This is exactly what might be expected to happen if you were still trying to install Python while you were signed in to Windows as a standard user (without administrative rights).

Can you confirm that this is not what you're doing? You've never been very specific about what steps you're trying when installing Python. The necessary steps are these:

0) Look up administrative users and standard users on Google, if you don't understand the difference.
1) Log into Windows as an administrative user.
2) Run the appropriate Python installer -- 32-bit Python if you've downloaded a 32-bit version of Golly, or 64-bit Python if your Golly package is 64-bit.
3) Probably there will be no errors, and Golly Python scripts will Just Work after that.
4) If there are still errors, please use Ctrl+C or Alt+PrntScrn to capture and post the exact error message.

If you're still using the "Skip Step 1 And Hope" installation method, please state clearly that you're doing this. Then everyone can tell you, "Well, it won't work, then!" and no one will have to be puzzled about the problem any more.

Bellman doesn't really work that way. You can't just feed this reaction to Bellman, and out comes an oblique-block displacing catalyst reaction and a "Poof! Your wish has been granted." If you really want instructions and a link on how to use Bellman, I will provide them, however they may not be accurate as MikeP uses Linux, and I assume you are on windows (right?).

I don't have Python and can't due to a bug running MSI (error 2203)!

Bellman is not written in Python, but C++. It requires compiling, using "make" (once again maybe not accurate because of OS differences) once you have navigated to that directory in Terminal or another such command line utility.

Try to look at it, and see the methods I used for creating those tight glider salvos. The gun can be any period above 180 (the two technologies I recommend using, are 46 * 4 = 184, or 30 * 6 = 180, guns of those periods can be found in JS and co.'s Gun collections, downloadable from here.

This gun will no longer be as trivial as *WSS guns because there are more than one glider per direction. Let's see if you are up to the challenge

The MWSS-to-HWSS conversion is very nice: if no MWSS is present, the sparks die harmlessly. Unfortunately the 3LWSS-to-MWSS hammer reaction isn't as forgiving -- the input LWSS stream has to be continuous. There might well be something better, at least for p30 if not for p22.

You could try extracting some of them from 11000+ syntheses on my web site,
http://codercontest.com/mniemiec/lifepage.htm. Most of the syntheses are in multiple steps, and show examples of various kinds of conversions.

At one point, I started an attempt to organize my converter collection into a user-friendly web-accessible form, but I only got through two of them so far (e.g. block to boat, and one other, both of which had dozens of methods each). I have around 800 separate files of converters, many of which have many methods each, so unfortunately, that project is not likely to see fruition any time soon.

If, for whatever reason, that won't work, all of them can be found in jslife's misc folder (specifically p46tech-fanout.lif, p46tech-gturn.lif, p46tech-ssconvert.lif and p46tech-ssturn.lif).

This is actually a queen bee eater (shuttle would mean the queen bee was stabilized into an oscillator). The block at the top reflects the queen bee, so it is unnecessary:

EDIT: alrighty, never mind what I said below. I'm working on something where queen bees have been popping up surprisingly frequently, and that block hasn't been entirely useless.
As for that "shuttle eater": 'trivial' isn't the word I'd use to describe it... maybe 'useless', but I don't think even that captures the feeling (although I don't suppose I should be complaining, since it's about on par with most of my posts in the Useless Discoveries thread so far).
Let me put it this way: Can you think of a single situation where using the "eater" would be a better alternative than (a) destroying the queen bee with a glider, or (b) just not having a queen bee there in the first place?

Also: It's not a shuttle eater, it's a queen bee eater. The queen bee shuttle is called so because the queen bee is shuttled back and forth between the blocks.

Before you get carried away aiming p15 guns at things, try running the pattern you posted. A boat might be created by that pattern every 15*46 = 690 generations, certainly not every 15 ticks -- but only if those boat-building sparks could actually reach those locations, which they can't.

Even if you kept just the two p46 shuttles, they would build a toad (6 bits) when they interacted, instead of the two domino sparks (4 bits) that you appear to want. On the next cycle, the toad would destroy both shuttles.

With the pentadecathlon in there as well, there's no hope at all. The shuttles will hit the pentadecathlon every 46 ticks no matter what you might do to clean up the boat.

But why do you want an inaccessible boat in the middle of three mismatched-period oscillators, anyway? If you just want to construct a boat, you can do it easily by crashing two gliders together, or any number of other easier ways.
