2-glider destruction of a long ship

Post by Gustavo6046 » February 19th, 2015, 9:30 am

This reaction was found by ME right now (February 19th 2015). Two gliders can cleanly destroy a long ship -- one of them turn it into a block and the other kills the block. The basis of most glider destructions of big size are that the last pattern to remain before the last glider is ALWAYS the block, unless you want something way more complex (your focus isn't to decrease glider count for its destruction).

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 14, rule = B36/S23
4b2o$4bobo$5bobo$6b2o2$2o$b2o$o4$20bo$19b2o$19bobo!
*yawn* What a nothing-to-do day! Let's be the only person in the world to do CGOL during boring times. :)

One glider can destroy a long ship in HighLife -- 2b2o$2bobo$3bobo$4b2o$bo$b2o$obo! --
why on earth wouldn't you just use one glider?

I would really appreciate it if you would try to avoid creating new Pattern topic threads for items that don't even really make sense as a throwaway post on a "Useless Discoveries that Aren't in CGOL" thread.

Just imagine if everyone started posting "2-glider destruction of a ________" in separate threads, using whatever rule they happened to be looking at at the time. There are many, many thousands of ways to fill in that blank. If everyone created new topics along these lines, the conwaylife.com forums would quickly become completely unusable.

If you can't resist the temptation to document items like this, maybe it would be a good idea for you to set up your own weblog for the purpose.

But it works also for CGOL! That one-glider destruction you posted there don't work in CGOL.
EDIT: wait! It don't work in CGOL, however it reflects an glider 180 degrees! You discovered a good xeet out there!
but it is one-time and also leaves a block. This

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 23, rule = B3/S23
32b2o$32bobo$33bobo$34b2o$31bo$31b2o$30bobo14$b2o$obo$2bo!
has another glider that turn it into a SUPER CLEAN OTR and..
I managed to put a eater to kill the output glider! The following uses an eater to kill it ALL:

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 23, rule = B3/S23
32b2o$32bobo$33bobo$34b2o$31bo$31b2o$30bobo5$25b2o$24bobo$24bo$23b2o6$
b2o$obo$2bo!
Moving a little the eater DOES difference; here the eater kills only the reaction, not to itself

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 23, rule = B3/S23
32b2o$32bobo$33bobo$34b2o$31bo$31b2o$30bobo12$17b2o$16bobo$b2o13bo$obo
12b2o$2bo!

I recommend you to install gencols and learn how to use it, and you will soon understand, that your present "discoveries" have no value.

Gustavo it's not a discovery if you don't put even the slightest of effort to optimize your "discovery":

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
2b2o$bobo$obo$2o7$8bo$7b2o$7bobo!

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 14, rule = B36/S23
2o$obo$bobo$2b2o8$13bo$12b2o$12bobo!
And both of them are not interesting (actually the first one could be placed in "unsure" or "useless" threads - but those are well known).

Destruction of any still life with one glider is "hugely" common. Actually I challenge you to find the smallest still life that can't be destroyed by single glider.

Second of all this is GAME OF LIFE (B3/S23) branch. Any "discovery" which is not GOL please post on the "Other Cellular Automata" branch of the forum. People might be more active here but this is because GOL is more interesting to them! So please stop posting other rules "discoveries" in game of life branch.
