Synthesizing 30P5H2V0

Post by Kazyan » January 1st, 2015, 5:55 am

What with the crab and the dart having syntheses now, I figure that a synthesis for 30P5H2V0 might be within reach. To that end, I offer this:

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 21, rule = B3/S23
2bo6bobo9bo$obo5bo11bo$b2o5bo11b3o$8bo2bo$8b3o4b2ob2o$15bo3bo$16b3o$
17bo$4bo3bobo6bo$2bobo4b2o5b3o$3b2o4bo5bo3bo$15b2ob2o$16bobo$7bo5b3o2b
o$7b2o3bo5bobo$6bobo2bobo5b2o$12bo$15b2o$10bo3bobo$10b2o4bo$9bobo!
The 32/34-cell base is a behemoth, yes, but it's what I could do and looks synthesizable. At generation 8, the left half of 30P5H2V0 is accessible. All we have to do is attach the small right half. However, a domino from the left's creation inhibits the right (see generation 6), so that the possible predecessors are limited. I don't think it's impossible, but it's fiendish. At generation 6, the source for the right needs to look something like this:

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 21, rule = LifeHistory
.A$2.A$3A2.A.A$8.A$8.A5.3A$5.A2.A5.3A$6.3A6.A$15.A$3.A4.A5.3A$4.A2.A.

20.4C!
Which could be derived from...I don't know, but this looks like a good angle:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 12, rule = LifeHistory
11.A$11.A$2A3.D5.A$A10.A$2.A.2C.D2.A.A$.2A.C2.D.A.A$4.C.D.A.A$4.CA.A.

This looks like a great start! You could also consider starting with a cap, or a hook or something. Maybe something like this:

Code: Select all

x = 69, y = 25, rule = B3/S23
2bo6bobo9bo$obo5bo11bo$b2o5bo11b3o18bo$8bo2bo30b2o$8b3o4b2ob2o21b2o4b

4bo32bobo3bo6b2o$9bobo38bo12b2o$64bo$60b2o2bo$59b2o3b4o$65bo!
There are so many possibilities that it seems like it shouldn't be too hard!

Nice. Do you have any more predecessors, though? I can't figure out how to get the bit at the top in place without interfering with the duoplet-generator. The bottom can be done with a moderately tricky spark and a glider, at least:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
2ob2o$2obo$3bo$3bobo$4b2o2$6b2o$b2o2bo$obo$2bo3b2o!

Congratulations as well!!

Now the right wing looks completely weird!

How long is the way to a complete synthesis from there?

This is why I say "almost", because there's 72/74 ornery cells in the middle to create.

Very Nice, although you and Mark are probably the only ones convinced that the initial p2 can be constructed. I seem to recall seeing some of the necessary components among the still life syntheses, but I can't easily find them. I would love to see a complete synthesis.
Kazyan wrote:Do you have any more predecessors?
I was somewhat busy at the time (and I still am), so I didn't have time to look through too many predecessors. I only did a very quick search and picked the first result that "looked nice" as an example. I am sure that there are much cheaper ways to construct the smaller engine.

Again, nice work!

OK, then figure out how to do this yourselves. (Of course, I have already done so.)

Thanks for proving that mess possible, glider guru.

Debris cleanup for completeness (there's probably a 3-glider method, but this was the first thing that worked):

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 46, rule = B3/S23
13b2o$12bo2bo$9bo3b2o$8bobo$8bobo$9bo3$13bobo$13b2o$14bo2$13b2o$13b2o

2o$8bobo$8bo!
And thus, a 114-glider synthesis for 30P5H2V0 is complete. First discovery of 2015!

If anyone else wants to jump on the "synthesize small spaceships" train, Pushalong 1 looks possible.

Congratulations, good work. I did some tidying up on the left hand side. Got rid of the LWSS and one glider and allowed the glider hitting the spark coil to come from the other side. Maybe now there is a way to get rid of the fuse? (Although I couldn't manage it myself)

Code: Select all

x = 49, y = 52, rule = B3/S23
