The one on the left shows you how much junk there is when the pi-heptominoes reappear. The first two look unsalvageable. The third depends on whether it's from a single object that can be deleted early or not.MathAndCode wrote: ↑August 9th, 2021, 6:49 pmp104Code: Select all

This a flipper, meaning it's period 54. Because it's a flipper, the left/right sparks interfere after 6 and 9 generations, and a higher-period double domino sparker will be unlikely.MathAndCode wrote: ↑August 9th, 2021, 6:49 pmp27Code: Select all

p3 won't work here, but if we do find p19 dot and domino sparkers, we can come back to this.MathAndCode wrote: ↑August 9th, 2021, 6:49 pmp57Code: Select all

This is the best of the bunch. 68P16 works on the left and right. However, a spark at generation 64 interferes on the top and bottom, eliminating 8 and 16 as possibilities, and I can't quite get Beluchenko's p40 to work.MathAndCode wrote: ↑August 9th, 2021, 6:49 pmp80Code: Select all

Other tips:
* 31 is not a bad number, as we have Merzenich's p31. Twice a prime can also work if we already have a sparker of that period (such as 22 or 46) or if it's a flipper really meaning it's a multiple of 4. In addition, while it's only happened to me twice in all I've done (Raucci's p74 and the p196 pi hassler, and the latter was completed by someone else), if a "bad" period can use catalysts instead of sparkers, any period will work.
* Check for junk. Sometimes it can be cleared; sometimes it can't. Junk right behind the object (unless it's a dying spark) usually means it's unsalvageable, as is junk surrounding the entire thing. However, if it looks like a B-heptomino sequence, it could actually be beneficial depending on whether you can convert it to a conduit.
* The program checks two cells behind one of the sparks; if it reaches that cell, it assumes the debris will hit the sparker. (This was three cells in the one-spark program.) However, it does not detect staying in the sparking area if it never goes two cells past, which seems to happen a lot (and is the reason that the p27 doesn't look doable and the p80 is still only a partial).
