There's maybe a slightly better approach attempted in this project from last year. Basically, take snapshots at a multiple of 12 or higher -- I used a step size of 15360, because I was dealing with methuselah-ish patterns with go-boring times in the millions. Then make string versions of the final hashes in reverse order, and you can see where the strings go from all the same character to something more chaotic... most of the time... sort of.

For information, for those who don't know, this is a modified version of my script finding diehards. And Hunting, it doesn't work the right way.
This script says this methuselah lasts 239 generations;

but it actually lasts 3.4k generations. You would have to split the objects every generation and check if they're a still ife, an oscillator, a spaceship or puffer. I know, it's really hard to do, but, say, apgsearch is supposed to do the work for you.
I know. My intended algorithm is similar to what dvgrn described, but I'm bad at Lua. That modification is just a placeholder. Another placeholder I made is like the diehard script, but record the population after running 2000 gens and replace the 0 with that population. It does not work obviously.

Can I have a script that searches for parents of a given pattern?
B2n3-jn/S1c23-y is an interesting rule. It has a replicator, a fake glider, an OMOS and SMOS, a wide variety of oscillators, and some signals. Also this rule is omniperiodic.

Can I have script that searches for isotropic rules given a rule range, starting pattern, and ending pattern? It would be useful for trying to find a 3 cell adjustable oscillator.

I made this double-circuit changing one another, which has 2 lanes of Gliders leaving the system. After near 2.8 bilion generations the Glider lanes disappear. So my idea was, that the system had reached a stable repetitive form. Now if you add ore remove a spaceship or a glider, the lanes get populated again. Starting at 0 again, at 3.2 bilion generations with no sign of repetition or stabilsation, my computersystem went to so slow and sluggish to not more usable.

I used the oscillator discussion thread and asked about a script. Until now i used only the history life to life script. And forget about writing a script by myself. I have no clue.

After my question of course the oscar-script was put on the table. I tried all variants meaning the python one in golly is the fastest. But my inferior computer needed 1 hour for 1 million generations. And in my case the ranges are 3 potentials higher. I would need at least 1000 hours computing time to come near of a result.

Now my idea is the following:
Only one of the base-lines of one triangle needs to be measured. You can put out and replicate the LWSS-stream without influencing it. This stream is one-dimensional, You need to measure only every 46th generation (30 in other circuits).

Now you make a snapshot out of a relatively small part of the LWSS-stream and compare it with the stream. If one matches, expand the snapshot up until to the hole stream. If it then matches, then you have the period, if not, move on.

2 Questions:
If someone feels like to put this idea in a script, i would be extremely thankfull.
If someone has a computer with some horsepowers and memory, please show me the period of my circuit.

Could someone create a generalized version of bellman for all rules in some rulespace, say, every rule expressible with hensel notation? Personally I prolly wouldn't <s>figure out how to</s> use it but it would be helpful for other folks, perhaps.

Good idea, but then, do we have a script that extracts all of the rles from the text and merges them into a new pattern? I'd like to run all of the partials locally without internet connection (that is, catagolue census) and identify puffers among them.

Thanks for the report. This should be fixed now (script updated in the original post). Turns out I hadn't actually implemented canonisation of oscillators either, hopefully no one relied on that before now. It should be working properly now, but only minimal testing has been done.

Can I have a script to enumerate oscillators of a certain period and size?
EDIT: Can I also have a version for hexagonal rules?
B2n3-jn/S1c23-y is an interesting rule. It has a replicator, a fake glider, an OMOS and SMOS, a wide variety of oscillators, and some signals. Also this rule is omniperiodic.

Would it be possible to modify dr to allow the background to return to ANY stable state instead of the ORIGINAL stable state? I feel like we might be able to find more oscillators this way.
EDIT: Would it be possible to modify WLS or maybe JLS to support non-totalistic rules?

Could someone write a program that generates random outer-totalistic 3-state rules, classifies each of them as exploding, chaotic, or stable, and outputs the results to a text file (naming the rules as described here)?
I wrote a stdin script that generates random soups of a provided number of a given spaceship. It works for all (non-B0) spaceships in the INT rulespace!
A Multistate INT notation + script.
