Catagolue Suggestions Thread

Post by muzik » January 5th, 2019, 2:04 pm

A thread for suggestions for Catagolue (which I decided to make after realising such a thread didn't exist).

To start things off: the main /rules page looks a bit messy, can it be reorganised a bit, with relevant headers, to aid navigation? Here's how I personally would sort it (ignore the rulespaces in italics).

Might as well post some more suggestions here:

- For the outer-totalistic Moore rules list page, a link to the rule's Fano page for each rule could be useful.
- For the range-1 outer-totalistic Moore and hexagonal neighbourhoods, a field could be added to the table that calculates and shows the rule integer for the given rule. Since this is done on the List of rules investigated on Catagolue page, it would be helpful to also have here to achieve parity between the two pages (and also give a new way to sort the tables). This would probably not apply to other rulespaces as there is no agreed upon way to calculate a rule integer for these. Since the wiki pages are now being retired, it would be helpful to have this field ported.
- Can non-canonical rulestrings be excluded from the lists (or placed in another list such as "Non-canonical rulestrings" or "Troll rules"? They tend to mess up pages a lot: https://catagolue.appspot.com/rules/isotropic
- A page that lists out all rules with names could also be useful, especially seeing as many such rules may not be searchable with apgsearch and as such will not show up in any rule lists. (Alternatively, rules with assigned names but no censuses could be made to show up in lists as well.)
- A column that shows the total amount of objects censuses over all official and inflated symmetries for each rule, to help identify more popular rules.

Can sample soups boxes be made collapsible, and only the official symmetries open by default? They can take up a lot of space for some objects.

Could we update hauls totally unrelated to soup searches, e.g. drifter searches, to Catagolue?
Still drifting.

If by "update" you mean "upload", then yes.

Can Catagolue be made to use LifeViewer's built in Catagolue Theme instead of a custom theme?

Can the boxes containing list of soups for a given object be made collapsible, with only official symmetries open by default?

(bump)
Can it be made so that for a yl pattern the viewer displays the first available soup? (with the exception of the BLSE + GPSE of course) It's a pain to have to go to one of the soups and paste it into golly just to find out what the infinite growth pattern is?
