I've modified Catagolue in commit d48d48ba to do the sensible thing. This census should now accumulate 100 new hauls per hour until the queue is exhausted:

Had a merge request open for a couple of days in case you haven't noticed it yet.

Can I deposit my searchRule-matchPatt2.py results into catagolue?

How do I search soups like 64x64, 256x256 or 6x6 stateinvestigator?

Is it possible for one to specify a search pattern, where a cell being either alive, dead, or don't-care, and get all the patterns matching the specification?

For example one could specify

Code: Select all

oo.o..
oo.ooo
......
oo.oo?
.o.o??
.o.???
to search for eater 2 variants.

This would be greatly useful for the study of synthesis.

Why isn't Rob's p16 included in the census?

It's in b3s23/G1 rather than b3s23/C1.

It looks like you dont have LifeLib installed, I think.
As for where you should post it, there's a thread for apgmera (apgsearch v4.x, right?)
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3049#p49273

Also, you should upgrade to apgluxe.

Don’t know if it’s v4.something.

I submitted a 10000-soup C1 LeapLife test haul to Catagolue just now. Despite changing the server address to gol.hatsya.co.uk, my haul is not uploaded onto Catagolue. I'm using v1.0

P. S. Off-topic spam: Apparently, I have more posts compared to calcyman. Maybe I should stop chitchatting...

4 years and 5 months. Brett Berger held the throne for the previous few months, up to and including 12th November 2015 -- see https://catagolue.appspot.com/census/b3 ... 2015-11-12 -- and prior to that there were no backups* and I can't really remember what the situation was. I vaguely recall Dave Greene would have been in the lead if he hadn't split his discoveries equally between two accounts.

*backups were enabled later that year when I realised how expensive it would be (in terms of computing power) to rerun everything in the event of someone completely sabotaging the census.

How can I automatically scrape contents from Catagolue? I was interested in obtaining oscillators in OT rules for an oscillator database, and Macbi wants to search for 5s candidates.

Do you know about the "textcensus" pages? Once you collect a list of rules that you're interested in, you can get a text file of apgcodes for each rule, like this one for LeapLife:

https://catagolue.appspot.com/textcensus/b2n3s23-q/C1

(same as just browsing the census to get to a list of objects, then adding the prefix "text" to the word "census" in the URL).

For some rules that will return a lot of data. You can be more specific and ask for one oscillator/spaceship period at a time, like

https://catagolue.appspot.com/textcensu ... -q/C1/xp10

That's cool! Do you also know how to get a list of rules and the symmetries for each rule?

No, I have a vague memory that something like that is available, but have forgotten the details. Here's hoping someone more knowledgeable can chime in. Obviously it's possible to scrape the main census page, but that will only get leaderboard rules and recently updated rules.

This gives every census that doesn't contain a hyphen in the symmetry (i.e. no backups, or 'synthesis-costs', or 'asymmetric-soups'), with the most recently updated censuses at the top:

https://catagolue.appspot.com/abclist

It's cached with a lifespan of 6 hours. Is that sufficiently good?

Great, thanks!

EDIT: Should I worry that requesting all of these pages will crash the catagolue?

Cool! So querying p14 ship in OT hexagonal rule for C1 symmetry, for example: https://catagolue.appspot.com/textcensus/b2s34h/C1/xq14

Is there a way I can say, upload a pattern and Catagolue will tell me whether or not said pattern is already in the Catagolue database?

Sure -- or pretty close, anyway. Select a pattern in Golly and run biggiemac's script.

Try some random object like this

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
9b2o$6bo3bo$6b4o2$4b4o$3bo3bo$3b2o$5bo$5bo$ob2obob2o$2obobob2o$3bobo$
3bobo$4bo!
and you'll find that it takes you to a page with a valid apgcode, xs35_woo0u1ug8ozxogjkczca226.

But if there are no soups listed for that object, and no synthesis, then usually that pretty much counts as "not in the Catagolue database".

(There are some cases where complete lists of, say, N-bit objects have been uploaded to Catagolue whether or not they've been seen in soups or synthesized, but those are the exception not the rule.)
