For me, the object page for the block-plus-ship says it has a glider synthesis, but when you click on it, it says "invalid pattern" and doesn't show a synthesis.Majestas32 wrote:Theyare both there for me?

Several failures in one rule:

The worst is the middle one, which is just a parent of a block.

Re: Catagolue Oddities
apgluxe incorrectly classifies both these soups as containing an "ov_p0". Strangely, the ash in both soups is the same set of objects, a block and a xs19_c8bjo33z33.

Here the two oscillators are not correctly separated:
(.https://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xp ... 2aci3-k4ty)
It should be:
https://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xp ... 2aci3-k4ty
This is weird as they are not even close to each other.

Their envelopes overlap. There was a rationale for not separating oscillators with overlapping envelopes, which hung on the existence of a Reflectorless Rotating Oscillator.

Re: Catagolue Oddities
Yep, wwei23 is responsible for those.
Re: Catagolue Oddities
Why are the b3s23/C1 backup censuses now showing up in the leaderboard?
Re: Catagolue Oddities
That's because someone has done the very naughty thing of creating a backup of a backup, and they show up if the number of layers of backup is even.

I didn’t actually do it that time. What if you submit soups to a backup?

Re: Catagolue Oddities
Also double backups show up in the symmetry list for a census CV like movero8 which can be convenient (e.g. on mobile)

Re: Catagolue Oddities
Now there's five of them on the leaderboard. They'll go away if you delete the double-backups, right?calcyman wrote:That's because someone has done the very naughty thing of creating a backup of a backup, and they show up if the number of layers of backup is even.

Deleted. These annoying backups seem to originate from Huntington, NY.77topaz wrote:Now there's five of them on the leaderboard. Good. And as for Huntington, NY, that seems suspiciously close to where wwei23 said he lived...calcyman wrote:Deleted. These annoying backups seem to originate from Huntington, NY.
Re: Catagolue Oddities
It may be wise to implement something server-side to stop said double backups from happening. I remember there was a rule (a boring move variant I searched) with a weird phantom symmetry that was showing up in the symmetry list despite being a backup, maybe it's related to it.
Also, wwei and majestas, if you could refrain from posting a combined 7 one liners in a row that would be great

Re: Catagolue Oddities
For future reference, Calcyman has now implemented code to prevent double backups from being possible (he mentioned this on the Discord).

Re: Catagolue Oddities
Why not just make it so that backing up an odd number of backups backs it up twice? Then it would always go from odd to odd.
