Are there any HErschel conduits that can accept herschels from 2 separate locations, and if so, are there any spartan ones?

Code: Select all

If the pattern is not too large, RLE (.rle file) is preferred when sharing a pattern. In Golly, selecting the pattern and copying with ctrl+C will get the pattern RLE in your clipboard. On the forums, use "code" tag (the fifth button labelled </> above the text input box) and paste the RLE inside like this:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
bo$b2o$2o!
If the pattern is so large that its RLE becomes very long, Macrocell files (.mc) can be appended to the post instead:

Could you tell me how to post files?
Below the text area when you're composing a message, there's an area with two tabs, "Options" and "Attachments". A lot of people miss seeing the "Attachments" tab. Click there, then click the "Add files" button.
Welcome to the forums! Tutorials is a good place to start with.

Thank you ! And I guess you cannot see macrocell files in lifeViewer ?

Last time I checked, eater one does not have a transparent debris effect, and is used to eat small spaceships and sparks, I've never heard of a transparent reaction with eater one before. If there is one of these transparent debris reactions with an eater one then it would almost certainly be the rarest still life to have this effect. If there is can you show me?

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 28, rule = TripleLife

This is the transparent eater, although it's not very saveable:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 18, rule = B3/S23
3bo$3b2o$b3o$b2o7$o$3o$3bo$2b2o$10b2o$10bo$11b3o$13bo!
However I wouldn't say with very much confidence that an eater 1 is the rarest transparentable (translucent?) still life.
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring

Unfortunately, it isn't compatible with double signals.
By "incompatible" does the user mean the following Snark heart cannot be welded to the wire?

A few years ago I independently discovered the following pattern:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 11, rule = B3/S23
2b2o6b2o6b2o$bo2bo4bo2bo4bo2bo$2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o$4b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o$

2o2b2o2b2o$2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o2b2o$bo2bo4bo2bo4bo2bo$2b2o6b2o6b2o!
It's an infinitely extensible still life of repeating patterns assembled from interlocking and overlapping beehives. I looked on the wiki and on other sources, but I wasn't able to find any record of this pattern being known about it, nor was I able to find a general term for this sort of infinitely extensible repeating still life. I assume that I'm not the first to find this, and I certainly assume that I'm not the first to find any member of this class of infinitely extensible repeating still lifes.

Does either of these—this specific pattern or its general class—have a name?

It's an infinitely extensible still life of repeating patterns assembled from interlocking and overlapping beehives. I looked on the wiki and on other sources, but I wasn't able to find any record of this pattern being known about it, nor was I able to find a general term for this sort of infinitely extensible repeating still life. I assume that I'm not the first to find this, and I certainly assume that I'm not the first to find any member of this class of infinitely extensible repeating still lifes.

Does either of these—this specific pattern or its general class—have a name?

Chicken wire is an agar. This is a free-standing still life. Internally, it's the same as chicken wire, but it has a border that contains the chicken wire and allows it to exist as a finite, free-standing structure on an infinite plane.

In order to illustrate a wick or agar, it's necessary to show only a finite part of it (nobody has infinite memory, or an infinitely wide computer screen). It's even better if one can find a way to stabilize them. A few instances of repetition in each relevant dimension is sufficient to show that the pattern is infinitely extensible.

What ranges would you all assign to periods, basically, what are the low periods, medium periods, and high periods?

I made a google form so I can collect the results in a reasonable manner: https://forms.gle/XXuRhojKCcUH1QQB8

I see, so what I found was a containable agar (specifically a type of chicken wire). Are there any other agars known to be containable like that?

There are many such agars known. Some are stable (like chicken wire). Grey ships are spaceships whose leading edge extrudes such an agar, whose sides contain it, and whose back end consumes it. There are also many examples of oscillating agars like this. The Spaceship Synthesis thread has recently been discussing a wick of this kind (i.e. the middle is a wick whose oscillation produces a strobing effect that makes it look as if it's moving backwards at the speed of light, the front extrudes more of it, and the rear consumes it at the same rate). There are also many large pulsator or shuttle almost-oscillators that can be stabilized with eaters or sparkers, but can also work if they are inducted with copies of themselves. These are conducive to constructing agars with stabilizers along the outside corners and edges.

In the "see also" section of Neighbourhood are mentioned a Euclidean neighborhood and a circular neighborhood, but neither of these have articles. What are they?
