Re: apgsearch v2.2
When will v3.0 be released?
Re: apgsearch v2.2
It's currently in the alpha testing phase, because I don't know how well it supports arbitrary rules. It certainly runs incredibly quickly for B35/S23 and Day&Night, and abysmally slowly for HighLife (due to the natural replicator).fluffykitty wrote:When will v3.0 be released?
I haven't yet heard back from either Apple Bottom or biggiemac (having PM'd them a link to the new version).

Ack, leave it to me to not realize I got a message! (Really, that "1 new message" link is trying pretty hard not to be noticed.) I'll read/reply right away.calcyman wrote:It's currently in the alpha testing phase, because I don't know how well it supports arbitrary rules. Something strange is going on here.
There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who don't.
Re: apgsearch v2.2
Yes, that's a problem in v3.0 noticed by Apple Bottom. I've now backed out those hauls.Alexey_Nigin wrote:Something strange is going on here.

I'm 99.4% sure it was only the ones mentioned in my PM, but let me double-check once I get home.calcyman wrote:[Apple Bottom: which other rules have you ran in v3.0?]

Re: apgsearch v2.2
OK, great! (And yes, I can confirm now B3/S01357, B56/S14568 and B3/S0358 were the only non-standard rule affected.)calcyman wrote:I've now backed out all of the erroneous hauls.
The hauls themselves are still available from the lists of committed hauls, BTW. It might be advisable to remove them entirely, if that's possible, or at least mark them as tainted.

Re: apgsearch v2.2
There was a bug that caused various objects -- gliders, boats, beehives, blocks, and blinkers -- to be spuriously reported. Calcyman fixed it in 3.01 and pulled the problematic hauls; but the categories still exist in the affected rules.A for awesome wrote:Uhh... What happened here?

Re: apgsearch v2.2
Can you post the 3.0 branch?
I had some ideas for AVX2 optimizations and ways to add some automated testing, but doing it on an old version of the code is pointless.
edit: never mind, I found it.

Re: apgsearch v2.2
Can a rule be named? I think that the link should stay the same, but on the page it has a title, where it displays something like:
"B36/S125 (2x2)"
"B36/S125 (2x2)"

Catagolue has found its way on to Hacker News, by a person who came here from the thread on the c/10 spaceship.

Re: apgsearch v2.2
This is unrelated to apgsearch as such, but -- couldn't help but notice that on the contributors pie chart for B357/S238/C1, Josh Ball isn't mentioned despite having submitted most of the objects for this rule. For that matter, neither is Dannyu NDos [David].
Both submitted their hauls in Catagolue's earliest days, perhaps before those pie charts existed. Would perhaps be nice to regenerate the charts (for all rules) to make sure everyone's properly credited for their contributions.
(Another item for Calcyman's ever-growing TODO list. )

Shouldn't this be in scripts?

Re: apgsearch v2.2
I've been wondering why the apgsearch threads weren't placed in scripts ever since I saw the first one.
Is there a way to make apgsearch v3 search a different rule than the one you first set it to besides recompiling it under that rule?

No (not yet?), but you can keep compiled binaries for all the rules you're interested in.gameoflifeboy wrote:Is there a way to make apgsearch v3 search a different rule than the one you first set it to besides recompiling it under that rule?

Re: apgsearch v2.2
Aaaugh! apgsearch v3.03 is unable to separate pairs of adjacent gliders in b3s238!
The link is here, but only open it if you are prepared for SVGs of 50 "spaceships", including 46 sets of multiple gliders.
My haul, which seems to be the source of all of the pairs, is here: http://catagolue.appspot.com/haul/b3s23 ... 15e18f7da1
EDIT: b38s238 is another rule that this happened to.

Looks like there's new spam there already even after the previous comments were deleted.muzik wrote:Kind of unrelated, but this page is spammed.

BTW, is there a way to keep up with new comments that are getting posted (anywhere, not just on a specific page)? An RSS/Atom feed, perhaps? For that matter, are there any other feeds, e.g. for users' new discoveries, interesting new discoveries in general, and so on?
