You've probably heard of (or seen) today's New York Times sunday frontpage -- if not, here it is --; Conway made the list too. See if you can find him. And read about all the others too, because behind each name is a human being who was loved and is now lost.

I have not heard of that at all, actually, until now. That's very sad. And to think this is only from one country, one specific area of the world...
If anyone just wants to see John Conway's name, it's in (scroll in the codebox to reveal)

Code: Select all

The rightmost column, the 9th or 8th name, depending on if you count the "II" at the start.
This following statement might be off topic, but it's really saddening to read the short descriptions of those people, especially when they include the information that the person has been involved in other tragedies as well. Some other descriptions are just so sad for various other reasons as well...

xkcd also picked up on it:

It can be found on Catagolue:
xkcd_48jsj8gzwe9e

EDIT: Please move it to the sandbox if you find it unconstructive.

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 21, rule = LifeColorful
11.E$10.3E$10.E.2E$13.E4$2.2B$.2B$2B$.2B15.2D$19.2D$18.2D$17.2D4$7.C$
7.2C.C$8.3C$9.C!
I have reduced the glider cost of quadratic growth to eight and probably to seven. Looking for conduits...
