Is there an article for Digits in Life?
If no, should I create one?
Also, shall I create one for Codd?

The Zweiback (left) and P35 beehive hassler (center) can be updated in smaller forms. (Keep the old forms, though; while the ones below are much smaller in both population and width, they're a bit taller.) These are not my discoveries (unless nobody has thought to replace the P5 volcano with the new one since the new one was discovered in 2007, which would be surprising); do not credit me for them.

The related P30 beehive hassler (right) [s]does not appear to be on the wiki at all[/s] is in the P35 article mentioned above and can also be updated. (How do I make strikethrough text work?)

As can be seen here, I want to merge all bunnies variants into the bunnies article. Can I reorient the bunnies 10, bunnies 10b and bunnies 11 so that they match bunnies 9?
Meanwhile this is unanswered.

Could you also write about popseq.c, spark_search.py (and possibly JLS/WLS/LLS for predecessor searching) in the glider synth tutorial, write about using variables in the creating custom rules tutorial, and finally, advertise tutorials on the main page (preferably on the line that says Overview · How to contribute · ConwayLife.com)?

Another thing I noticed when looking at the oscillator period categories is that many of them appear to be missing when they're really on other pages. For example, the P80 category page only includes an LCM oscillator, but there is information on two Beluchenko's P40s hassling a blinker on the P40 page. There should be a redirect with the P80 category so that anyone looking in that category can see that that P80 exists, and since it's a redirect, it's in italics, so they'll know it's not the main focus of the page but can still be found. (Categories are much more reader-facing on the Conway Life wiki than they are on Wikipedia.) Unlike redirects on most wikis, people aren't expected to type them into the URL, but they're for categorization instead.

Others to apply this to are the P45, P50, and P246 guns that can easily be turned into oscillators, the P30 beehive hassler mentioned a few posts above (which is on the P35 page), the P18 R-pentomino hassler I co-discovered, the P98 mentioned in the R49 conduit page, and the double pi orbital at P84. (L122 and R190 can also be period 122/244/488 and 190/380/760 oscillators if you create a square of four of them, but these aren't mentioned explicitly on the page.)

Issues in the tutorials page:

- In the Creating custom rules tutorial, there is no information on icons or variables. Maybe a section on rule trees could be added too, though I doubt it because rule trees are hard to understand.

- In the nitty gritty section of Contributing to Catagolue, an image file is missing.
B2n3-jn/S1c23-y is an interesting rule. It has a replicator, a fake glider, an OMOS and SMOS, a wide variety of oscillators, and some signals. Also this rule is omniperiodic.

How is pattern notability defined?

I was about to create 46P22, but then I saw that Nathaniel deleted it in 2011 because it was non-notable. Why exactly does this pattern fail notability, have the standards changed since 2011, or is there more than one 46P22?

Code: Select all

I suggest adding a template:citegameoflifenews (or something similar). A number of pages from my revisions like 2-glider collision, bunnies and Lx73 are already using it and I plan to add more. In this template there should be a link to Game of Life News.

Also, please advertise tutorials on the main page (preferably add a link on the line that says Overview · How to contribute · ConwayLife.com).

Can the POTY page be edited to reflect the voting results of POTY 2020?

I didn't find said 266-cell GoE on LifeWiki "Records" section, probably because it is too big, but the sequence and method may worth mentioning on the LifeWiki. Which one is indicated by the sequence, and how to label the cells by the successive order they are placed?

Since win10 have occupied more than 50% market share, could we recommand WSL in first place on our apgsearch tutorial?
I believe WSL is easy to use than cygwin. And it is more convenient to 'install'. idk whether some else of the tutorial is obsolete. but at least it should clarify WSL is better alternative to cygwin for win10 users.
Tools should not be the limit.
Whether your obstacle is a script, an stdin, or Linux environment computing resouces.

I think my p31 discovery in the oscillator discussion thread is worthy enough for at least a mention on the Merzenich's p31 page. I would add it myself except for the rule against adding your own discoveries.

I just discovered a surprising fact that could have been realised. The beehive push catalyst that went famous last December appeared in this October 2018 thread by the same author:
beehive_push.png
beehive_push.png (88.48 KiB) Viewed 4325 times
Consequently its LifeWiki news entry and POTY 2020 entry needs careful rewording.

EDIT: dang, it is a false alarm — goldenratio told me in a PM that the post have been edited without a note. But I still don't want to go to the discord...

Another reason I post is that catalysts in said thread didn't seem to be applied to crystal programming, so someone pleeeeease try them out

Is Beacon on 38P11.1 still notable? It's a trivial p22 that isn't even the smallest known p22.

EDIT:

1. There's a simple p50 pi hassler (below) that's similar to the p44, but the LifeWiki page is about the related gun, not the oscillator. What should we do with it and the pi hassler category?
2. Someone else added Tanner's p46 to the pi hasslers category. I'm ambivalent about this; is it a hassler or a conduit?

Is Octomino II notable enough for an article? While it only has two uses on the forums (before this post), both are used in contexts where it's assumed others are familiar with it already, and they're by different posters in 2011 and 2021, 10 years apart (so they're not related posts nor was it something that quickly faded).

With 8 cells and lasting for 116 generations, I don't think it should be called a methuselah. Butterfly and teardrop are described as seeds, but I'm not sure that's entirely accurate, either. "Evolutionary sequence" sounds good to me, but I'm open to other options.

Gabriel's p138 should definitely be mentioned on the Octomino II page if it's created.

Is it only me, or the navigation bar on the Special:Preferences page for a login-ed (how to say that) user is generally broken? Compared with other pages including Special:Watchlist, the bar there has no background color and the texts are smaller.
Also, I would dig out some of my previous proposals and questions, but there are many such posts so just look at older posts please.

I hold some objections for this matter, particularly after CG made too many edits of this type which cluttered up in the Recent Changes. Can anyone clarify why exactly it is a good idea to do so?
