More raw data, this time Catagolue aliases missing from LV:

Code: Select all

Red Alert - B2ei3-acjn4ceijkr5-ejry6-ck7c8/S1c2cen3-iqr4aqwz5-inr6-ae78
Einstein - B2ein3cijn4cnrwy5cnq6e/S1c2-ai3acny4anqy5c6ek8
LeapLife - B2n3/S23-q
Farespa - B34ck5/S23aceik4aci
B-life - B34t5y7/S23
Simple Brain - /2-e/3
Majority (LTL) - R4,C2,M1,S41..81,B40..80
Also some characters like & and : break aliases, see Day & Night, Leaplized D&N, 9:43 at Knight
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring

Fixed, thanks. Note Golly doesn't support rule names with spaces, colons or other special characters so (although LifeViewer allows it) it's probably not a great idea to include them in alias names.

Build 551 is now live on the Forums and LifeWiki

Please note: you will need to refresh your browser to use the new build (Ctrl-F5 on Chrome)

Enhancements since the last released build:
  • added two new totalistic rules:
    1. Weighted rules
      • specify with NW and then hex digits for each cell in the neighbourhood
        • if the weights are all in the range -7 to +7 use single hex digits
        • or if the weights are all in the range -127 to +127 use double hex digits
        • hexadecimal representation has MSB as sign bit:
          • 0 to 7 represent 0 to 7
          • 8 to f represent 0 to -7
          • 00 to 7f represent 0 to 127
          • 80 to ff represent 0 to -127
        • Example 1 becomes NW13250cb01:

          Code: Select all

           1,  3,  2
           5,  0, -4
          -3,  0,  1

        • Example 2 becomes NW8a05140464828b0694:

          Code: Select all

          -10,   5,  20
            4, 100,  -2
          -11,   6, -20

      • can postfix with H for hexagonal grid or L for triangular grid
        • triangular grid will cause weightings to be treated as a triangular neighbourhood and flip vertically on alternating cells
      • added the majority of Weighted aliases from MCell's built-in Weighted Life rules page
    2. Gaussian rules (specify with NG)
  • triangular display is now correctly stretched for ZOOM < 4x
  • allow & and : characters in alias names (but not recommended)
  • embedded viewer can now resize with the browser window (mainly for showinviewer.lua and https://lazyslug.com/)
    • enabled with fullscreen keyword in <meta name = "LifeViewer"> content section
Fixes since the last released build:
  • fixed an issue with bounded grids on tile boundaries
  • fixed initial zoom for empty patterns
  • don't capture F11 while LifeViewer has focus (to allow browser fullscreen toggle)
  • fixed an error decoding HROT rules with empty B or S sections
The updated hotkey map detailing the LifeViewer keyboard controls is here.

Comments, feedback, suggestions and bug reports welcome!

Gaussian generation rules probably shouldn't instantly disintegrate

Code: Select all

x = 94, y = 89, rule = R2,C3,S30-48,B24-36,NG

oh, I apologize, I shouldn't had requested so much. (I also mentioned NewCA.lua, and later deleted the paragraph.)

I am happy that the weighted rules are implemented.

By the way, for far future:
What about multiline rulestrings, where every line begins with a #KEYWORD

Or for single-line rulestrings:
I guess, the rulestring shouldn't contain spaces and tabs? Can it contain semicolons? Can it contain equals-sign characters?

((By the way, for far future: an example of a sqc-rule-table , bipolar00.sqc CODE, is at the end of

Some of the isotropic non-totalistic aliases I've suggested before came from Weighted Life, so there are some duplicates in the list of aliases.

Not sure what I'd suggest to fix this though, since the formats I converted them into is the more commonly used format around these parts anyway, so I'd personally recommend deducting these from Weighted Life instead

What's at the end?
Is that a rhetorical question? Ruby slippers, maybe? Or silver slippers, in the original Wizard of Oz book? Or... golden loafers?

Hard refresh your browser to view.

What's at the end?

Code: Select all

rainbow
That was June, right? This is August. You're a bit late.

Build 558 is now live on the Forums and LifeWiki

Please note: you will need to refresh your browser to use the new build (Ctrl-F5 on Chrome)

Enhancements since the last released build:
  • [R]Super support for Moore, Hexagonal and von Neumann neighbourhoods
    • [R]Super cells can be displayed as 2-state pattern
      • Settings->Display->[R]Super to toggle all states vs 2-state display
      • hotkey Alt+H to enable [R]Super states display, hotkey Alt+J to disable [R]Super states display
      • while [R]Super display is disabled Copy will copy a 2-state version of the pattern
    • [R]Super cells can be cleared from a Selection or Paste in the editor with the [R] button or hotkey Ctrl+Del
  • Rainbow colours for drawing 2-state patterns
    • new script commmand [[ RAINBOW ]] will draw 2-state Life-like patterns in rainbow colours
    • hotkey Alt+W to toggle rainbow rendering mode
  • Neighbourhoods
    • added State Weights to Weighted neighbourhood rules
      • add a comma after NW specification and then one hex digit per state
      • state weight values are 0 - 15 (decimal) which are specified as 0 to f (hexadecimal)
    • added Gaussian neighbourhood for Generations
    • hotkey Ctrl+B will now create and copy to the clipboard a Weighted neighbourhood from a Selection if the pattern is multi-state
      • for 2-state patterns it creates a Custom neighbourhood
  • Aliases
    • Help->Aliases now marks aliases with duplicate names
    • added Weighted Generations aliases
  • new script command [[ THUMBSTART ]] will start playback when a thumbnail is expanded
Fixes since the last released build:
  • fixed maximum Bounded Grid size (depending on rule at least 6 less than max grid size)
  • fixed HROT/LtL S limit issue
The updated hotkey map detailing the LifeViewer keyboard controls is here.

Comments, feedback, suggestions and bug reports welcome!

Maybe clear the cache on Safari? It seems likely that until a hard refresh, Safari will be using an old version of LifeViewer -- check Help > Info to see if it's Build 558 or not.

Just noticed that autofit works inconsistently between usual rules and their history versions;

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = electrumlife
2o$3o$obo$bo!
[[ AUTOFIT ]]

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = electrumlifehistory
2o$3o$obo$bo!
[[ AUTOFIT ]]
This of course also applies to Super (and holy crap I really need to hurry up and finish Ultra if it's to be me anything significant).

Depends on your screen width. For embedded LifeViewers it's not allowed for the LifeViewer display to be wider than the text area containing the RLE. When you quote a post containing an embedded LifeViewer it narrows the available width because the quote indents the post.
Fixed, thanks!

AutoFit will fit to the non-zero state cells in the pattern:

Code: Select all

#C [[ AUTOFIT ]]
x = 3, y = 3, rule = Life
3o$o$bo!
For rules that support it you can optionally include the (cosmetic) history states also by turning on AutoFit History mode:

Code: Select all

#C [[ AUTOFIT HISTORYFIT ]]
x = 3, y = 3, rule = Life
3o$o$bo!
[R]History and [R]Super have a non-zero history state (state 2) so it is included in AutoFit. AutoFit History mode makes no difference here since there aren't any cosmetic history states - the history cells are state 2.

Code: Select all

#C [[ AUTOFIT ]]
x = 3, y = 3, rule = LifeHistory
3o$o$bo!
You can, however, ask AutoFit to only include state 1 cells with AutoFit State1 mode:

Code: Select all

#C [[ AUTOFIT STATE1FIT ]]
x = 3, y = 3, rule = LifeHistory
3o$o$bo!

Will LifeSuper cells be made to have the fading history and longevity effects that other rules do (if shortened from the usual amount to account for the amount of states used for other purposes, and possibly for only the first state)?
