That's known as a logic gate. It's used in some versions of the RCT-based universal constructor.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

I just took the time to run this, and saw absolutely nothing strange about the failure of the conduit.

If you're going to post this kind of thing, please use more than one word to describe the pattern. Explain specifically what you're seeing, what timestamp you're seeing it at, why you think it's strange, etc.

EDIT: You're probably looking at the temporary still-life conversion that happens ending at T=54 -- right? I've added a LifeViewer STOP command in the above quoted pattern so that other people can find the place more easily.

Is the corresponding slow component known?

Hi all, I’m quite new to this.(Sorry for the interruption of this thread)
After a bit of messing around, I found a small period 2 oscillator, but I think such a small and low period oscillator would be found already.

Code: Select all

 x = 10, y = 10, rule = B3/S23

Can someone tell me whether this is a new discovery?
(But it wouldn’t be of much use though)

Welcome to the forums! This particular oscillator has been seen before, but don't let that discourage you. Rediscovering low-period oscillators is a good way to familiarize yourself with Conway's Game of Life. If you want to get a sense of what's known, you should take a look at the jsife pattern collection (available here). It contains an oscillator section that shows most of the significant oscillators found before 2013. I compiled a supplemental collection that includes oscillators found from the beginning of 2013 to the end of 2014. The latest version of the stamp collection contains many newer oscillators, but overall it's not as complete.

Even though the oscillator you found is a billiard table, it's surprisingly useful. For example, it was used here to stabilize a period-14 oscillator.

Ok, so after I rediscovered that oscillator, I found a lwss reflector. After downloading and copy pasting a lot of files and patterns, I assembled it. It uses a lwss to g and g to lwss (quite simple huh?) so I guess it's already discovered but I just want to make sure. (Could fit in a smaller bounding box but I'm too lazy to edit it.

Nice find! There doesn't seem to be any need for the big unwieldy bronco attachment, though. A plain syringe + Fx77 can produce the input Herschels just fine:

Things like this have been around for a long time. I seem to remember a 3-out-of-4 Herschel-input period multiplier, but maybe it was a 2-out-of-4 -- see the period multipliers thread. I've added this new 3-out-of-4 to that collection. It's unusual in that an Fx77 can be connected to it -- usually the period quadruplers need a little more space to cycle through all their phases, so you need a standard snake+block B-to-H to get enough clearance.

This domino spark looks impossible to get in, but you never know. The eater is essential, but the three blocks are just eating junk. It could probably be turned into a glider or even multiple with the correct conduits... if it worked.

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 19, rule = B3/S23

Edit: my program tried to spark a spark, but this one is actually accessible if you can figure out something that creates this or something equivalent.

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 12, rule = B3/S23

Edit 2: back to the first RLE, here's a way to get a glider out of it (by wwei23). Still not that accessible, though.
