There's another easily constructible logic gate?

It's known through the years, since Winning Ways. I was trying to find a similar gate in LeapLife.

This is known right?

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 21, rule = B3/S23

If it is then stuff like this don't have their optimal syntheses on Catagolue.
EDIT: that object has the eater on the wrong side, but still.

That is quite an improvement over the previous add-candelfrobra converters. While it's not an improvement in this particular case, it does improve a fair number of larger syntheses. E.g. it reduces 9 19-bit P3s. I have listed (but not yet examined) the 20- and 21-bit ones. It also reduces 8 dual-rotor trivial higher-period oscillators from 24-33 bits so far.

I've also identified 8 small ones so far that could be further improved by bringing the inducting object (still-life, beacon, table, etc.) from below in simultaneously, which could sometimes allow for using a 2-glider block on the right instead of the 3-glider one. It will take a while to get through all of these, but I'll update this once I'm done.

Speaking of the list, when (if ever) are you updating your synthesis database? The syntheses there can be very useful, even upon realising that the last time it was updated was around syringe time, and I'd hate to see the synthesis go-to becoming Catagolue's singular-synthesis pages.
Each day is a hidden opportunity, a frozen waterfall that's waiting to be realised, and one that I'll probably be ignoring

Pardon my self-promoting, but I've been drafting a synthesis component catalog on LifeWiki dubbed Project Wöhler (though it has not been updated since Extrementhusiast's comment). It could potentially get expanded like Mark's original site with out efforts.

I think GUYTU6J found it once, and I commented, and someone (mniemiec?) commented it was called W or something, and someone (???) commented only symmetric patterns have composer names.

I think that I found at least two conduits accepting it because it has this small predecessor.

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
2b3o$2bo2bo$2bo$o!
I also found a way to make it from an R-sequence.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

It's also one-fourth of a Gabriel's p138. The best 3G synth if anyone ever needs it:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
bo$2bo$3o3$2b3o$4bo$3bo4$2b3o$4bo$3bo!
We really need to name the resulting constellation since I'm pretty sure it's been rediscovered several times, "W" should be fine (as long as there isn't some common active object that's used in conduits that would deserve the name more)
Oscillator discussion is boring me out. I'll return when the cgol community switches to something else.

Don't we have the wing already for that?

I decided to search for more conduits and found this:

Code: Select all

Now I think that we should look into this because that sequence apparently somewhat common:

We already know several ways of making honey farms. I was talking about the hexomino that eventually makes two blinkers if undisturbed.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

The fishhook's tail is in the wrong position to eat a block using the fishhook's typical eating mechanism (which wouldn't work anyway unless the block is perturbed by something else). However, because of how this particular block is formed, a fishhook-type catalyst won't work (as there isn't enough room to catalyze the block from below and to the right). Instead, one must one a block-style catalyst.
