Birth of a Butterfly

Post by kadeo » June 19th, 2021, 5:55 am

Hi everyone!

I only just found out about Conway's game. However, I've made this cool pattern, and wanted to share it with someone. Not sure if it's an already known pattern or not, but no harm in sharing.

I call it 'Birth of a Butterfly'.

Start:

It goes through quite a lengthy birth/transformation, and ends up 'fluttering' in this form on it's 314th frame/pulse/cycle:

Conclusion:

Hope y'all enjoy! :)

First of all, welcome to the forums.
In Conway's Game of Life (and other isotropic rules), symmetric starting configurations always stay symmetric, so a symmetric starting configuration that turns into a constellation that is symmetric, which seems to be a major reason for its aestheticness, wouldn't be perceived as interesting by most people here. I recommend that you read the forum rules in order to get a better idea of what is and isn't considered notable.
That being said, while the ash of symmetric starting configurations isn't inherently interesting, many large natural still lives are symmetric because they only have to worry about one half stabilizing, so they tend to form from symmetric regions. Here are some examples:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 27, rule = B3/S23

I am tentatively considering myself back.

The butterfly usually refers to this:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
b3o$obo$2o$o!
Bx222 IS MY WORST ENEMY.
