Thread for your speculative elementary conduits

Post by dvgrn » January 13th, 2021, 2:18 pm

This is a thread for elementary conduits that are not quite completely cleaned up, or that currently have no known input and/or output connections to other elementary conduits.

This thread is an attempt to keep incomplete conduits out of the Hunting of the New Herschel Conduits thread, which is already badly overloaded.

I figure that a discussion in the elementary conduits thread about trying to find dove-accepting conduits should be mentioned here (or perhaps dvgrn will simply delete this post and move that discussion here). There's also a partial LWSS-making conduit on the same page of that thread.

Edit: This is immediately connectable but probably not indefinitely connectable.

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 25, rule = LifeHistory

Another edit: Can the eater 3 be replaced with a permanent catalyst that works in this situation?

Code: Select all

Yet another edit: Here's a mostly-complete O→P conduit:

Code: Select all

Fourth edit: Here is a H→P that is immediately connectable but probably not indefinitely connectable

Fifth edit: I found an O→H with marvelous output clearance. Unfortunately, its input clearance is the exact opposite.

Sixth edit: Here's a B→W with unlikely connectability:

Seventh edit: Here's a partial R→B with dubious connectability:

Ninth edit: Is there a suitable replacement for the block at the right?

Tenth edit: Here is a partial P→B:

Twelfth edit: This partial P→R may or may not be connectable if completed.

Fourteenth edit: This probably isn't connectable.

Also, it might be possible to replace the fishhook at the top with a nozzle that extracts another signal.

Can the block be restored?

Edit: Here are a couple of conduits that only need one replacement catalyst, including one that makes a canonical I:

Code: Select all

x = 39, y = 26, rule = LifeHistory
24.3D$25.D$25.3D3$34.A$32.3A$31.A$31.2A2$2A10.2A$.A10.2A$.A.A$2.2A2$5.

30.A$36.3A$38.A!
Also, if a replacement catalyst for those two partials can be found, this partial will probably be worth completing:

Code: Select all

x = 34, y = 17, rule = LifeHistory
29.D$28.3D$27.2D$2A10.2A$.A10.2A$.A.A$2.2A2$5.2A$5.A.A$7.A24.2A$3.4A25.

Yet another edit: Here's a H->E that has clearance on a different direction from the previous E-making conduits, so I don't know whether or not there are any conduits that it can connect to:

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 41, rule = LifeHistory

The first part is taken from HR160C and HRx160C.

Fourth edit: Here's a mostly complete way to turn a century into a glider:

Twelfth edit: Here's a partial Herschel-to-Herschel conduit that doesn't have good output clearance:

Code: Select all

Thirteenth edit: Can the lower-left block be replaced with a permanent catalyst that works?

7.2A$7.2A5$3D8.2C$D9.2C$3D8.2C$12.C3$10.2A$5.2E3.2A$5.2E!
It seems relatively easy because the reaction isn't very specific about the catalyst. If the block is replaced with a domino spark at generation seventeen, the pi still forms without any junk behind.

Fourteenth edit: Here's a W->G conduit that unfortunately doesn't connect to anything:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 31, rule = LifeHistory

Fifteenth edit: Here's a partial H->G that has an extra boat that I'm trying to figure out how to suppress:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 25, rule = B3/S23

Can the boat be replaced with a permanent catalyst?
I am tentatively considering myself back.

It seems this partial h-to-g might be used as a X-to-G0 if one can find a good way to re-direct a glider generated upstream:

Code: Select all

x = 82, y = 83, rule = LifeHistory

It seems this partial h-to-g might be used as a X-to-G0 if one can find a good way to re-direct a glider generated upstream...
Hm. I definitely like it, but then again I always want to try and rescue this kind of thing and make something "useful" out of it:

It's nice and Spartan (except for the Snark), and you could hook up a CC semi-Snark to that G0 output and you could get two different output timings depending on the semi-Snark setting. But... the same can be said for some existing G0s we have that don't include a Snark.

Maybe there's some case where a a particular signal has to be rescued, producing a parallel output signal. We'd get to choose the output lane without the expense of a Snark:

Code: Select all

x = 64, y = 95, rule = LifeHistory

So it's kind of a specialty demultiplexer. Unfortunately I can't think of why there would be much demand for this particular brand of demultiplexer...!

B-to-G7, needs a sacrificial block:

It's probably more work than it's worth to complete it, but I thought the doubly transparent block was interesting.
EDIT: Possible route for an I conduit, but the eater 2 gets destroyed by an E. Is there a suitable catalyst that can recover?

That output glider was already found some time ago -- don't remember by whom. HSE21T-4 -- it's always worth looking in the Elementary Conduits Collection when you find a glider, and see if there's one there that matches.

There might still be some discoveries to be made here somewhere, of course. I'm not sure how thorough the last round of exploration was. For example, the conduit could reasonably be used to move a block by various distances (second column), because it really likes to make a block instead of a boat (third column).

And it almost makes a period quadrupler (fourth column) but the last piece of junk fails to disappear nicely, and I don't see how to save it offhand.

It might be possible to place a catalyst in the lower-left region so that the XWSS frontend at generations 118 through 128 stabilizes and the fishhook is not destroyed (then place other catalysts to clean up any remaining mess), resulting in an I-to-XWSS conduit.

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 21, rule = B3/S23
13b2o$13b2o4$2o$bo$b2o$2b2o9$8b2o$8bo$9b3o$11bo!

Edit: Here is one possible type of interaction, which creates a LWSS.

Code: Select all

Another edit: Here is a periodic solution.

There might be another periodic solution with a lower period or better input clearance.
Also, I found an interaction that creates a HWSS.

Code: Select all

I think that there is at least one sparker that creates that type of spark, but it might not have suitable clearance.

Yet another edit: Indeed, that sparker doesn't work due to insufficient clearance.

the thing that really drives me up the wall is the fact that if the eater 1 survived, the block left by the B would be in the perfect place to trigger the reaction on the right but the eater 1 also interferes with the reaction.

The bad news is that I have not figured out a way to prevent the wing sequence from destroying the conduit.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

EDIT by dvgrn: Moved this over here from the Elementary Conduits thread, because it's not a complete conduit, and even if the blocks are successfully deleted there will be some difficulty connecting conduits to both the input and the output.

The Elementary Conduits thread already has 24 pages of posts. I'd really like to keep it mostly for actual new working elementary conduits.
