Merely misguided expectations that it should be chainable like the P15 version:

Code: Select all

x = 37, y = 13, rule = LifeHistory
17.3D$17.D.D$17.D.D$5.2A23.2A$6.A23.A$6.A.A19.A.A$2A5.2A19.2A5.2A$.A
33.A$.A.A29.A.A$2.2A13.3C13.2A$6.2A9.C.C9.2A$5.A.A9.C.C9.A.A$5.2A23.
2A!
LLS now gives us the tools to investigate whether a stable chainable version exists. Unfortunately, my searches suggest that it's unlikely that an elementary, symmetric chainable catalyst exists at low-ish repeat times.

Attached is the current LLS file I'm running, which should take another day or two to finish. The version with one fewer generation of repeat time took 10-12 hours to complete. The strategically-placed zeros in the middle of the final generation's asterisks are wwei-style branch-cutting to rule out the ship+eater result and a regular eater-based result, neither of which work.

EDIT: For future readers: this search finished and indeed came back with no results.

Attached is the current LLS file I'm running, which should take another day or two to finish. The version with one fewer generation of repeat time took 10-12 hours to complete.
Don't worry about it. I only suggested investigated that conduit because it seemed like making it would be relatively easy straightforward: One only needs to worry about cleaning up junk and not actually creating the ∏. However, I now see the problem: Nine rows is not much room to place catalysts in. Given that you and other users have already invested resources searching this, I suspect that trying to complete the PT31 that I mentioned in the same post is probably a better idea than conducting a search for a PF30 with one tick higher repeat time than the previous search.
I have historically worked on conduits, but recently, I've been working on glider syntheses and investigating SnakeLife.

Eater + spark is enough:
I just saw it from a failed block catalysis.

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 15, rule = LifeHistory
2A4.3D$2A5.D$5.D.D$5.2D8$11.A$11.2A$12.3A$14.A!
It forms from the seven-cell parent that I posted, but the reaction reveals a seven-cell great-great-grandparent..

Edit: dvgrn mentioned it here, referring to it as "block tie blinker".

Another edit: Since it seems to be somewhat common, I decided to investigate its conduit potential, and I found this.

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 11, rule = LifeHistory
5.2C$5.2C$7.C3D$7.C2.D$7.C3D3$2.2A$.A.A$.A$2A!

I found these, again with the help of Kittyst. Not ideal at all.

I found these, again with the help of Kittyst. Not ideal at all.
Could you please tell me which direction your object typically comes from?
I have historically worked on conduits, but recently, I've been working on glider syntheses and investigating SnakeLife.

I just found this reaction.

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 18, rule = B3/S23

By the way, the region that the block eats is a wing sequence.

Wow, that's a good one -- huge amount of clearance, and a fair amount of potential for late-stage catalysis. I'll try setting up something like a three-catalyst 'catgl' search on this, and see if anything good turns up.

This isn't actually useful due to the sacrificial block, but it's a sample of how clean the traveling reaction can be:

Code: Select all

I suspected that there was something good that could come from that particular placement of the pi and initial fishhook (with a block added in order to prevent a wing sequence from destroying the fishhook).

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
8b2o$8b2o9$3o$obo$obo8b2o$11bobo$13bo$13b2o!
There could very well be other useful possibilities as well, and I started to search for them before remembering that that is exactly what CatForce was designed for. Also, even without any catalysts, there's a dirty century that is edgeshot. I figured out how to suppress the block but was unable to suppress the junk below and to the right of it.
Also, instead of simply eating the wing sequence, one can turn it into a stationary object in a variety of ways. This might be useful as a means of preventing the chaos from destroying a catalyst or leaving behind objects in difficult-to-remove-from-places if it goes back to the right.

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 19, rule = B3/S23
13bo$12bobo$12bobo$11b2ob3o$17bo$11b2ob3o$11b2obo7$3o$obo$obo8b2o$11b
obo$13bo$13b2o!

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 15, rule = B3/S23
8b2o$8b2o8$3o$obo$obo8b2o$11bobo$13bo$13b2o!
There are probably more ways.

Edit: Here's another way to edgeshoot chaos.

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 20, rule = B3/S23
8b2o$8b2o9$15b2o$15bobo$17bo$17b2o$3o$obo$obo8b2o$11bobo$13bo$13b2o!
It leaves a loaf behind, but I suspect that there's a way to get rid of it while still edgeshooting chaos. Here are a couple of close calls.

Code: Select all

x = 34, y = 22, rule = B3/S23
23b2o$23b2o9$30b2o$30bobo$32bo$32b2o$15b3o$15bobo$15bobo8b2o$26bobo$2b

Code: Select all

x = 34, y = 23, rule = B3/S23
23b2o$23b2o9$30b2o$30bobo$32bo$32b2o$15b3o$15bobo$15bobo8b2o$26bobo$28b
o$2b2o24b2o$3bo$3o$o!

Well, catgl almost sort of produced a period tripler, producing gliders in different directions for two of the three stages -- but I'm not sure there's a way to bring a pi in such that the third-stage glider can escape:

Code: Select all

x = 34, y = 109, rule = LifeSuper
29.A$2A25.3A$.A12.2A10.A$.A.A10.2A10.2A$2.2A3$20.2D$20.2D4$28.2A$13.

$4.3A$4.A!
Besides the usual edgy Herschel-to-block converters,block to glider converters, and other Herschel-to-junk not particularly worth mentioning, that was all that turned up in a three-catalysts search with catgl's standard catalysts (which is a very limited collection compared to what Kazyan has been feeding CatForce with lately).

Can the ship be replaced with a permanent catalyst?

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 12, rule = B3/S23
10b2o$10bo$8bobo$8b2o2$3o$obo$obo2$9b2o$9bobo$10b2o!
A fishhook-type catalysis is required, but the catalyst can't recover too quickly.
This performs the proper catalysis, but it comes back one generation too soon to not get hit by a spark, and it's too large to fit, anyway.

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
obo$11b2o$3o8bobo$13bo$4b3o5b2ob2o$4bo2bo5bobo$7bo2b3o2bo$5b2o2bo3b2o

Thank you. Hopefully a smaller catalyst indeed can be found, as the current version doesn't have good input clearance. I tried to increase the input clearance but was only able to do so marginally and at the cost of the stator extending farther downwards. Octomino-to-Toad is trivial:

Code: Select all

Yes, but how do you plan to convert the formation of a toad into another type of signal in a manner that allows the signal to be relayed indefinitely?
I have historically worked on conduits, but recently, I've been working on glider syntheses and investigating SnakeLife.

A block eater with better clearance and an appropriate 180° reflector would result in a tandem glider output.

Here is another chaos-edgeshooting reaction that also delivers a pi with impressive clearance and shares the same beginning:

Code: Select all

x = 45, y = 44, rule = LifeHistory

.2A$7.5A$10.2A$10.A2$10.A.A$11.A!

Edit: I isolated a different pi.

Code: Select all

Another edit: This may or may not be connectable.

Seventh edit: Here's another method that allows sparkers with lower periods:

Eighth edit: Here's a way to turn it into a glider with a leftover block:

Ninth edit: Is there any way to delete the beehive?

Tenth edit: I managed to replace one of the sparkers in the century-making conduit with a fishhook.

Code: Select all

Can someone try to find a stable version of the original chaos-edgeshooting reaction? Doing so would give us at least three new stable conduits—and very likely more.

Eleventh edit: Here's another chaos-edgeshooting reaction that isn't quite as good as the two that it's based off of:

Code: Select all

x = 45, y = 44, rule = LifeHistory
35.2A$35.A.A$36.A6.2A$43.A$41.A.A$41.2A9$24.2A$8.C.2C13.A$8.3C11.3A$9.

Twelfth edit: Can anyone isolate one or both of these Herschels?

Oh man, that's really nice! Unfortunately that block is just barely too close to be fed by HL75P or HF95P, so without miracle this seems like it can only connect to the periodic BR176P (or RR204P which is currently a behemoth). That conduit seems to be showing up as the only solution a lot of the time now, and it's making me really want a better stable version that's actually good enough for the ECC...

It's also worth noting that this does work with the two known E->Gs that are buried in the ECC, but to my knowledge it does not seem to work with the known E->B or E->H conduits unfortunately.

I still think this is a promising starting point for trying to find new conduits for the E or for the Pi that produced it. Here's a near-miss P->2G (not decomposable) which is only useless because of an annoying failed B output:
