By the way, the oscillator can also be viewed as an I-sequence shuttle.
I may as well mention here that the (original) oscillator contains a periodic H→I and a periodic H→B.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

There is this one class on pattern I was wondering if one came across, basically a conduit that does one thing if the signal is "on periodic phase" and another it is "off periodic phase", none of which is blowing out of course. I did manage to get one working example, which is to eat an H on the "on phase", but I wonder if there other conduits that produce glider, or otherwise only conduct "on phase" instead.

I realized the fancy transparent block can be replaced by the ordinary r-suppressing block

Which makes it compatible with the SE7T14 glider

Here is a p13 version:
If we can get sparkers that "cover" all periods except finitely many periods, we're pretty much all set up as we would be we had a stable version. While this means infinitely many sparkers to cover all the primes, we can still gauge how set up we are.
We have P2, P5, P7, P9, and P13 so far. The next periods we would need sparkers for would be P11, P17, P19, and P23, although I can't think of any circuitry at all that requires sparkers at those periods, so I think we can pretty safely ignore those. The P29-hassled pentadecathalon and Sokwe's P31 might work, but I can't check right now. Due to not having a P3 or P11 capable of supporting this, because P3 decided to be impossible and P11 is very high and we don't have a random dr sparker for that, we would need a P33 sparker for that period. Does Jason's P33 work? Next would be P37, which might be possible with one of Beluchenko's P37s, P41, and P43. P47 might be possible with the pre-pulsar shuttle. P51 might be possible with Beluchenko's P51. At this point, this is starting to devolve into a prime enumeration game, as well as multiplying primes by 3.
EDIT: Wording.

That's only true if the conduit has to be used twice. If the timings between consecutive usages have a greatest common factor of one, then only a stable version will work.

No, that's also true if the conduit is used in a periodic circuitry, such as a gun or a loop.

I posted this in "unsure discoveries", but it might be useful. The 104P9 was used for clearance; it's a lucky coincidence that 63 is a multiple of 9, but any domino sparker that doesn't get destroyed will work here. It's an R-to-R in 63 ticks with a block perfectly placed for a BFx59H afterwards (which probably isn't the only option). The R-to-R is my discovery; the fact that it can be continued with a BFx59H is not.

Eater weld for the FNG...
Unfortunately it seems as if the big problem here is getting the input R into position, not getting the output Herschel out. Adding a welded eater just makes it harder to bring the R in from that side, and I'm not sure that sneaking it in from the other side is any more likely.

I know that I found a way to convert an R−H into a century, but I can't seem to find it.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

My untrained eyes say that some of these might be turnable into a dependent G->H? I'm hoping to custom-fit something to shrink the P1008 gun even further.

However, to make an periodic g-to-h, one would need the oscilator to survive in the event there no inbound glider. So that makes it much harder in this case, one would need keep the block there, and either have the glider avoiding it, or destructing it for it to restaure it later with an hershell produced elsewhere, which is not impossible, but very unlikely. So to find out if it exist, I think you need to keep the block there, otherwise it is a plain p144 oscillator.

I'm using it in an application where there is guaranteed to be a glider, so I don't have to worry about the no-glider case.

I was able to delete the extra junk from the R-pentomino:

Dug out a p8 Herschel duplicator from one of nokangaroo's posts in sandbox. Is this combination of L112 and Fx119 known?

The figure eight location comes from the p8 Lx73. I tried to flip it so as to release L112 output's FNG, but these didn't quite work:

I see, so one can make a parity dependent g4-to-b stable circuit, well it only works with this for now.

Of course, on could try to get a glider bounced from the downstream hershell track, but the clearance requirement make this hard, but I think there might be a periodic solution ( or a need for a 2 gliders clean up instead)

Some attempts with an appended dependent conduit.
A p8 bouncer that works has to literally block the input lane:

Code: Select all

x = 51, y = 49, rule = LifeHistory

$25.A!
A p8 bumper that could have more clearance on the side just doens't work cleanly:

Code: Select all

x = 153, y = 151, rule = LifeHistory

Can this signal duplicator be used in Spartan or Hashlife-friendly circuitry?

Well... it _could_ be, but for most purposes a Silver reflector would be enormously cheaper -- maybe a tenth of the cost of this, the best way I can think to do it with current technology. It's not particularly easy to build and synchronize three oscillators along with still lifes in such a large area. It could maybe be done at about the same cost as a Silver reflector, if someone did an enormous amount of HoneySearch research and then hacked slsparse to support synchronized p8 constructions.

Silver reflectors' repeat time is 497, so this new thing is a small improvement there. But if someone really wanted periodic duplicator circuitry, probably a standard p8 G-to-H plus an NW31 (or any other stable Herschel attachments putting out two gliders) would be smaller, easier to build, and would recover faster (192 ticks)

Code: Select all

x = 59, y = 37, rule = B3/S23

2o$20bo3bo3bo$19bo3bo5b3o$18bo3bo8bo$17bo3bo$18bobo$19bo!
Even that would likely still be more expensive to construct with slow salvos than just a standard stable Spartan syringe + Lx200 + whatever, though -- and that can accept single-channel salvos, where none of these p8 circuits (or the Silver reflector) can do that.
