It looks kind of promising, but it's probably not going to work unless you can get the eaters to move along with the beehives, or at least find some substitute for the eaters that works in any position mod 9. Look what happens when you actually try to burn this fuse again:

Any stable support would have to work in nine different positions -- the beehives are 9 cells apart but move a distance of -4 or +5.
But stable support isn't much use for building a caterpillar-type spaceship anyway. At the very least, it makes the design problem enormously more difficult.
It
might be possible for two or more of these beehive fuses to support each other, running in parallel, without all the eaters (?). The odds seem very low, but it would be a great discovery if it happened to work.
Even then, though, we'd still have to figure out how to get gliders or other signals out of the fuse. Otherwise there's still no hope of a new caterpillar-type spaceship.
