I don't know if this has been discovered yet, but I found that the under-weight spaceship (UWSS)
eventually becomes a fleet:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 33, rule = B3/S23
2bo$3bo$o2bo$b3o7$3bo$4bo$o3bo$b4o6$4bo$5bo$o4bo$b5o7$5bo$6bo$o5bo$b6o!
And the extra-underweight spaceship turns into an R-pentomino in the first generation.
Do you think nobody would try to go through the underweight spaceship's evolution?

Purposefully-made still life predecessor from accidentally found reaction between blinker and 51-generation century predecessor (I think this is the right place to put it?):

That one's been around a while. The standard name for that glider output is "SE-2T80".

When you come up with a possibly-new Herschel-to-glider converter, it's a good idea to run this script on it before posting it.

The script will spit out a standard identifier for the H-to-G, like this -- NW31T120, SE-2T80, SW-2T21 -- and then you can do a forum search on the identifier text to see if it's already known:

Code: Select all

SW-2T21 and NW31T120 are the Herschel's first and second natural gliders. SE-2T80 also has had a known H-to-G converter since the late 1990s.

As it happens, the exact same set of catalysts can be found in the Elementary Conduits collection, with an extra beehive on top to suppress the NW31 glider. Your rediscovery is a very thorough one!

I was wondering whether or not there's a way to make a queen bee shuttle last for four or five iterations before exploding. Instead, a set of three or four observations led to this.

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 7, rule = B3/S23

Also, here's the most iterations that I achieved.

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 8, rule = B3/S23

I am tentatively considering myself back.

The block streams can be generated by 10c/20 puffers, which would probably be based off of puffer 2

Also, the B+transparent block reaction can connect to HR44Bc, which can be used to make things like this HSW34T69 (i think)

Can the blocks be replaced with catalysts that don't have to be regenerated, even transparently?

The complex interaction makes me think no; and there's none in the ECC. I'd like to be proved wrong though.

It does look like the odds are against standard catalysts surviving that passing firestorm, especially catalysts small enough to be stacked together that closely.

It's not really relevant but I'll mention it anyway: at least we have BRx46B, another CatForce discovery --

I was wondering what common but not extensively searched methuselahs to search for conduits for, so I tried seeing how this played out.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
3o$o2bo$bo2bo$2b3o!
To my surprise, it makes two Hershcels minus their first natural gliders, which I had been wondering about ways to make a while back. I decided to look for predecessors, and after finding 3b2o$b2obo$ob2o$2o. I continued looking for predecessors and found this instead.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
2b3o$3b2o$2o$3o!
I then tried to find paperclip predecessors with less than ten cells based on this, and while I did not find any, I did find this.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
bo$bobo$3bo$4bo$2o2bo$bo$2bo!

Edit: I just found this when I was trying to remember a partial ∏-to-LOM conduit.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
bo$bo$ob3o$bo!
I am tentatively considering myself back.

I then tried to find paperclip predecessors with less than ten cells based on this, and while I did not find any, I did find this.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
bo$bobo$3bo$4bo$2o2bo$bo$2bo!
Here's a 9-cell one based on that idea:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
2b2o$2b2obo$2o$bo$2bo!
I feel like I remember having seen an 8-cell predecessor at some point though. I could be misremembering.

I'm going to make a thread for predecessors so people won't have to wonder about these things in the future.

I made a "minimum predecessors" thread at one point, but it never got any traction — so I don't know how well that's going to work.

Oh; can you give me the link?

Here

EDIT: That's where the 8-cell paperclip predecessor was from (I think I might have found it when looking in a soup or something).
