I suppose there are better ways to synthesize it that hitting a halfblockade with a glider.

Code: Select all

x = 64, y = 47, rule = LifeHistory
62.A$61.A$61.3A34$2D4.2D$2D4.2D4.A$11.A$11.3A4$6.2D$4.2A2D$4.2A2.2A$

3.ADC$2D3.ACD$6.A5$6.2D$6.2D!
It could POSSIBLY be reduced to 4G IF there is a way to turn a halfblockade into something in the path of the excess glider with 1G, but that’s unlikely.
4G seems to be the optimum:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
bo$2bo$3o4bo$7bobo$7b2o$5bo$6bo$4b3o!
as this is the only 3G synthesis with this bounded ash. For the 4blocks in 8x9 3G is also impossible. It requires at least 4. I think 4G should be sufficient, even though I don't have a synthesis.

Yes, that's a very old period tripler -- Dieter Leithner, 15 May 1997. It needs a following dependent conduit, and was posted two days after the first dependent conduit was invented.

! conduit by Dave Buckingham. The tripler requires a Herschel conduit

Ah, got it, sorry.

There are a lot of suppressed Fx119 variants. Offhand I can't find anywhere that this exact one has been mentioned before. It's a bit bigger and slower to recover than the standard Fx119 option for preceding a dependent conduit:

Code: Select all

#C Fx119c
#C yellow addition is just a minimal dependent-conduit H-to-G
x = 58, y = 46, rule = LifeHistory

It's definitely possible your version might fit somewhere that the standard suppression doesn't, but the requirement of a dependent following conduit makes it a very rare case.

Well, I certainly didn't expect THIS still life to randomly appear while trying to find conduits:

It seems as if you pasted a RLE for a totally different pattern. It's also odd that when I attempt to quote your message, it doesn't copy the bottom pattern at all.

That pattern is a signature - gets me every time as well
The 5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.

Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of LWTDS.

Ah! Anyway, here is a reduced instantiation. 16.1854 from 9 gliders, and 15.479 from 10. (One glider could be removed if the constellation could be made from 3).

That's literally the same reaction: gen 84 of Extrementhusiast vs gen 92 of that synthesis are both 2*pi + TL + block.

Of course! I just inserted a specific 3-glider collision to create a fully-instantiated version of BlinkerSpawn's refinement of Extrementhusiast's synthesis. Many soup-inspired glider syntheses are examples of "art imitating life" - i.e. artificially synthesizing some small natural components near each other, and then letting nature take its course.

I think that's exactly what Gustone found. He call it "instead, it produces long sparks".

I'd like to suggest giving a link to your quotation in cases like this, if possible, just to save everyone else a pointless duplicated search. (EDIT: Oops, repaired the broken quote order.)

There are many categories that don't exist in the LifeWiki, for which matching objects are well known. When there are hundreds or thousands of known periods, sizes, shapes, or whatever, it's much easier to keep track of them in a stamp collection or ZIP file, rather than as separate LifeWiki articles. Absence of (LifeWiki) evidence is not evidence of absence -- check the jslife collection and its updates, and the appropriate Golly pattern collection if there is one.

This particular spaceship was originally found by David Bell in 2001:
Date: Mon Apr 30, 2001 6:44am
Subject: Period 26 c/2 spaceship

A slight modification of Paul's new period 78 puffer creates a
period 26 spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 33, rule = B3/S23

The wiki is not meant to contain every type of pattern. Patterns like this are cataloged in pattern collections. This particular spaceship can be found in the jslife-moving collection albeit in a slightly larger form. The form that you posted can be seen in the Golly pattern collection (Life/Spaceships/smallest-low-period.rle).

Psst… I think the quote order is reversed.

Got it. Sorry for the confusion!

Serendipitous rearrangement that actually improves the synthesis of the resulting SL, iron and trans-table:
