Wow, this gives an idea how enormous is number of distinct 5-glider collisions, at least as many as possible collisions of one glider with any point of spacetime in this pattern! This IS enormous.

There are also 137 pi+block or pi+blinker collisions that last 2000+ gens (see my 8-cell noncompact methuselahs topic), and someone posted an R+block collision erlier in this thread that also runs 10k+ gens…

I'm also willing to bet there's a pi+glider collision that lasts at least 8k gens, possibly 10k+; I've charted about a third of one phase of one collision direction, and I've already found a collision running 5800+ gens:

In fact the discontinued soup search failed to reveal any switch engines.

From what I understand, the soup search did find switch engines, but Nathaniel needed to clean up the data and add the patterns to the online list before they were publicly displayed, which he didn't ever get around to doing (see here and here). That being said, a 20x20 soup that produces two switch engines is probably quite rare.

According to Achim's Game of Life Page (exactly this one http://wwwhomes.uni-bielefeld.de/achim/moving.html) block-laying switch engine appears approximately in one of 220000 soups, and glider switch engine in one of 600000 soups. So probabilities are around 1/220000 and 1/600000, respectively. Appearing of switch engines can be counted as independent events, so mathematical probability of simultaneous appearing of these two switch engines is around (1/220000)*(1/600000)=1/(220000*600000)=1/132000000000≈0,0000000007%. Probability is one in over one hundred thousand million! And they appeared in 20x20 soup! I can't believe in that!

Yes, but on one of yours threads it is said that this number is a lot smaller (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=832) but I can't said how big is that
