That looks a little more complicated than it needs to be. You can sneak in and reproduce the key still lifes from a later stage of the reaction, which lets you skip building the Herschel entirely. Saves seven gliders and a couple hundred ticks:

There are known blocker constructions with as few as six gliders, but all six need to be synchronized with each other. (Maybe there are other known variants with fewer synchronization requirements, but they aren't in the stamp collection on Mark Niemiec's web site.) The nice thing about this recipe is that it could actually be programmed into a Geministyle twoarm constructor  you only need to send in two gliders at a time from two directions. Plus I really like the way the blocker pops up out of nowhere...!

The mirror image idea didn't pan out but a different fuse that normally burns clean did the trick. Double fuses add a degree of freedom and more possibilities.

That p8 synth is a good stuff. I played around with the soup a bit and managed to narrow it down to that reaction as well, but not knowing much about glider synthesis, I didn't get very far beyond that.
The glider count is quite an improvement over the previous best results (that I'm aware of) sixteen gliders. The wiki has a 22 glider synth and mentions a 16 glider one which is in the jslife collection.

That is ... incredibly rare. I don't think that any asymmetric random soup has ever done that before. (When the LWSSonLWSS did appear in a census result, it was an error.)
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the monoclinic!

Mark Niemiec's site has a seven glider synthesis for this. Basically, 3g > LWSS #1, 2g > block, 2g + block > LWSS #2.

This new recipe has the advantage of using synchronised pairs of gliders, but then the the 7 glider recipe could be adapted to a 4 x gliderpair recipe and woudn't suffer from the p2 timing constraint. This is indeed a rare find, but is it useful?

I knew that Niemiec had a construction, because it's fairly well known now how to graft together various types of spaceships, including some of the overweight ones. I just didn't have the time today to look farther, and now I see I don't have to. Thanks.
There might be a four Glider construction of the Traffic Lights/Honeyfarm combo, as it's nicely symmetric, and also possible to perhaps cleanup with a single Glider, so this could be brought down to 6.
One use for these random soups is that occasionally they do give us some interesting object syntheses. That's how I came across a 3 Glider construction of the Pentadecathlon when for years it had been assumed that 4 were needed. It just might be that the way to figure out how to build spaceships is to wait until some appear naturally and then figure out if they can be tamed in some fashion. And if they never appear, then maybe there really are objects that just can't be constructed.

Does anyone else use Andrzej Okrasinski's LifeSS Screensaver? For the past year or so, I've been running it occasionally on my computer, and it's turned out most of the things I've posted in this thread.
When the initial density setting is changed, seperate output files are created. This means that combining searches from several computers would be possible (I think). It may be possible to use this to create a census similar to the Soup Search, which seems to be no longer updated.
EDIT: only a few hours later, an entirely different soup turned up a Griddle on Block:
