I'm guessing xs44. C1 is the only symmetry that's not seen one of those yet; xs39's have only sprung up in some D symmetries yet. There's also been more distinct xs44's in symmetries that have both.

(All this makes sense to me given that 44 is divisible by 4, too. On that note I wouldn't be surprised if the first C symmetry to see an xs39 is C2_1.)

I saw this, but the predecessor didn't look easy to synthesize. I guess I didn't look far enough back. Even a naive 12 gliders is quite an improvement over the previous 16 (which was the only synthesis known)!

Interesting. The Coe ship starts as an otherwise viable LWSS on MWSS, but with 1 cell more, thet doesn't destroy the structure.

The problem with that being that ongoing reactions can catch and destroy a loafer far easier then a standard spaceship or flotilla due to its slow speed and lack of explosion-stopping sparks. There's probably a loafer in a catagolue haul somewhere that couldn't survive long enough to be recognized.

Symmetrical objects seem to be much more common in small soups than 16x16 ones. The pulsar and the pentadecathlon experience a large increase in frequency. My favorite result, however, is this 12-cell pattern that produces a snake and a beehive on cap in only 28 gens:

Unfortunately, the way it forms doesn't seem to form any useful predecessors, but this has also occurred many times in symmetric soups. Nice! This allows syntheses of things where the test tube baby is attached (e.g. tied or inducted) to something else difficult to grow from something simpler (e.g. griddle, pseudo barber pole, or pseudo-objects formed from one of the ends). What is still missing is a way to grow a test tube baby from an eater or integral, for objects like two test tube babies eating each other, Silver's P5 on test tube baby, roteightor w/test tube baby, etc. (Another unsolved problem is how to grow a griddle from a simpler object, to make things like pseudo barber pole on griddle.)

Another cute pair of interacting switch engines. This one is pretty clean, the offshoots of the glider-emitting SE go into the blocks laid by the block-laying SE but fizzle into ash quickly. Adam, we appreciate the large quantity of CPU hours you're contributing, keep on finding nice new things!

Thanks! Do you still have access to your swathes of computing power?

Simon Rawles and I have found the third and fourth phoenix, respectively.

(By the way, congratulations on your collaborative 8-glider synthesis! That's a huge improvement from the original 24 as reported on Mark Niemiec's website.)

I haven't for a while and won't for at least a couple more weeks. I am still running on 16 cores of a shared machine, but it seemed harder to get any portion of the lab computers to stay running for more than a day or so, compared to the relative ease last spring and summer, so I more or less gave up there.
