The wiki still lists 11 gliders as the cost of a caterer. Same with Mark Niemiec's new searchable database, which is in the final testing stages and will hopefully be back on the Web in a week or two. I don't think the previously posted soup allows for much of an improvement on that number.
Catagolue currently (21 February) lists exactly one source soup for a caterer, which allows for a trivial 8glider synthesis:
I didn't check to see if the block could be replaced by a single glider  somehow it didn't look likely.

I've been browsing through catagolue's life p2 objects, and there's only one occurrence of a griddletype oscillator, and the inductor is a bit surprising. Here's the messy reduction I came up with:

xs22_02596z69bp552 caught my eye on Catagolue this evening for some reason  has it been collected already? It's one of those unlikely active reactions that suddenly freezes in place when it looks like it should keep moving. Looks like a dozen gliders, possibly one or two less (?)
All four of the current soups for this still life construct it in the same way, by bouncing an almostprehoneyfarm off a beehive.

This may be the last time that Catagolue shows a continuous range of stilllife bit counts  4 bits to N bits, and everything in between. 33bit still lifes, and oddbitcount still lifes in general, are a lot rarer than evenbitcount ones... usually larger symmetric still lifes with even bit counts seem to show up and create new gaps, before all the smaller gaps get filled in.

Apparently Oddo–Harkins applies equally well in Conway's Life as it does with elemental abundances. I found a 3 glider synthesis for the junk. Unfortunately it seems to be incompatible with the pi to the NW. Also I found a single glider clean up for the whole thing.
