Re: Herschel conduits and other stable circuits

Post by Tawal » January 9th, 2024, 5:39 pm

I post here because I don't find a thread which fits more than this one.

It's not an Herschel circuit but it's almost a glider circuit.
It makes a 180° glider reflector +-5hd.
It's not too big but still rather slow (recover in 382 gens).
It's an engineering solution to have this reflector.
Perhaps someone have a better one (please share it :))

It works with a block instead of xs33_8o6he8gzrail5dz643, crosspost from Unsure discoveries:

Just found a new logo for defunct twitter...

Code: Select all

rle removed
And I had liked it :P
Just notice that xs33_8o6he8gzrail5dz643 permits a special passing through with bigger recovery time :

Code: Select all

x = 150, y = 140, rule = LifeHistory

Is there a thread for inserters ?

A variant of SE5T12 permits a G1 (and more but increasing the RT) inserter.
It can be useful for front end salvo, isn't it ?

Not sure where to put this, but an H-to-B that I haven't found any connections for:

The block transparently catalyzes twice.
I'd argue there's only one transparent catalysis here. The first time it's basically a non-interacting spark created while deleting the block (if the block was present), rather than a transparent catalysis:

Code: Select all

x = 39, y = 28, rule = TripleLife

Actually, I believe that the first reaction is a transparent catalysis.
In the Transparent objects page, it explains that keeper reactions count as transparent.
So really there are two reactions because the first is the block keeping one, while the second deletes the extra chaos.

I think the keyword is 'catalysis'. Not every arbitrary reaction counts as a catalysis, at least not in a useful way.
When it doesn't matter whether an object is present or absent, that object could be a transparent object without being a transparent catalyst.

In this case, presence of the block modifies part of the reaction (a spark is created, as shown in my previous post in this thread). However, that spark never interacts with the rest of the active reaction again, and that spark doesn't in any way participate in the re-creation of the transparent block. I.e., on the first interaction, the block is simply deleted if it's present, and is unconditionally re-formed later.

Probably one could say that that block twice acts as a transparent object, but it only once does an actual catalysis.

One could also avoid unnecessary terminology, and instead say simply that the block is deleted and reformed twice, and the device still works essentially the same way if the block is initially absent.
