I haven't seen either of these before. I have just added them to my lists. The R-pentomino one is nice, in that none of the gliders come from the front. I am always looking for such small methuselah syntheses where all the gliders come from two directions, usually both from the rear, or in some rare cases, both from the front. The beehive one has one minor defect - it forms a living cell right at the tip, then retreats, then moves forward again. This can be a problem if the beehive is activating something static. This is my 3-glider beehive edge-shooter of choice (which I just used to advantage on the Oscillator Synthesis page):

I just noticed the R-pent synth actually forms another R-pentomino, then flips it into another position.

While continuing the search for a simple, clean (27,1) Herschel fuse I came across one with a canoe and block which emits an LWSS to the side. I've added an extra block out to the other side to suppress a pi-explosion which makes the fuse very dirty.

I'm pretty sure it's useless but was surprised by the LWSS output.

That is very interesting! It would be extremely useful were the LWSSs shot in the other direction. As it is, that will just be sending things back to the construction arm rather than towards the helix.

I should be more clear now that progress has been made: the blue box may be extended in any direction, and the interaction may be a few generations earlier. Namely, the block you added is in a perfectly reasonable zone. I expected the blue box to be the place something had to be for there to be a chance to get an H out, but since that search turned out fruitful, we can definitely widen the search space to try to find more options.

As far as I know, useless, but it's funny how the block on table and block are catalysts for this. The Loaf+beehive on top is just for demonstration, but I'm guessing other things can be done. the problem is how to get the wing there in the first place.

I wonder if the ubiquity of these indicates anything about the existence of similar fuses at different velocities. Are the any particular interesting fuse speeds which this search might be adapted to?

I found them using a small script that generates a block-and-beehive constellation, and places a common pattern next to it.

Also, I was messing around with Guam's G->Half Lom reaction, and found this.
