Funny I remember seeing that pattern when I was a novice and commenting on it
Come to think of it, it would be pretty cool if we could extend it

AFAIK there'd been constructed several c/5d puffers already, but here is a compact one from scratch using only 3 ships and a glider:

Parallel glider vs
Lobster (spaceship) collisions are all useless.
The only nondestructive forward
LWSS vs lobster reaction is:
Code: Select all

Synthesis_patt_v1.2.py gives two results for a single engine in
p6 shuttle. They fit in well but can do nothing else for new synthesis:
Code: Select all

These small but compact hasslers, including
30P6.1,
Sixty nine and
Pulshuttle V, are still hard to synthesize today.

This works, and probably costs less too:
Code: Select all

p2208 blinker puller oscillator
Probably not very useful, but hopefully amusing. Can be extended by 184n cells. The use of a p46 shuttle as a Herschel factory isn't my idea, I found it in the hex counter in Golly's examples (it would normally be p138 because the Herschel's first glider would eat every third glider of the feeder gun).

Pretty sure the bait here can't be reproduced, unless there is a catalyst that does the same thing:
Code: Select all
x = 14, y = 5, rule = B3/S23

Code: Select all

All matter of useless Life patterns go here. For example, the following is a methuselah that takes 946 generations to stabilise:
Code: Select all
x = 10, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
