Useless but a little surprising. When I collide a glider with this constellation of a loaf and two blocks, I get a glider and eventually (after fully consuming the constellation) four blocks that include the 3-block resettable glider shifter. Since I can't get the initial constellation back, there is nothing I can do with it, but getting the 3-block constellation is noteworthy, since it is really an "engineered" construction, with the 3rd block placed intentionally to exploit symmetry.

Maybe there is more to be discovered by colliding with pure block constellations. They do have more symmetries.

BTW, the synthesis of the final block from the original collision is the same as the synthesis in the shifter, catalyzed by a previously block, placed there fortuitously along with its symmetric twin. (Watch the pi evolve from step 84 on) (Which of course means that the two SW gliders are on the same diagonal)

This seems unnecessarily convoluted. You use 2 gliders to turn each inducting beehive into a block plus a spurious block, one glider to delete the spurious block, and 3 others to delete the inducting block. A single glider can easily remove an inducting block, reducing 6 gliders per side to 5, but even that is unnecessary, as 2 gliders can remove each beehive. In most cases, a small inducting still-life like this can be removed with just one or two gliders.

If the 2-cell strip is allowed to bend, those periods remain a possibility. I haven't searched above p10, but higher periods should be increasingly unlikely.

I think it might be less “slightly less useful” and more “ever so slightly more novel, but nonetheless absolutely useless.” It’s not like we could use it for anything (as far as I know).

Unless you needed to use loaves in a UC’s memory and you just wanted a spaceship at that displacement and so you could just copy it all down.

Incorrect. The trailing MWSS advances at c/2, as does the head of the puffer. The puffer's tail, however, is a fuse that advances slightly more slowly, causing the puffer's body to grow slowly over time. The MWSS eventually catches up with it.

That's just one of those classic rediscoveries that a sizable fraction of people eventually discover at least once. (I think I remember seeing it posted at least one other time, too.) Cyclic is another one of those, as are the pulsar and pentadecathlon for newcomers. (I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of anything else at the moment.)

Moderately useless until proven otherwise, I think. There are other G+B -> G options, but any particular one of them isn't too likely to be what you want for any given problem:

... I suppose these two could save you a glider on cleanup on very rare occasions, when you have a B-heptomino to suppress, and a block or something on one of the right lanes, that also needs cleanup.
