### Smallest still lifes with specific islands

Islands are taken from the bs23 census. EDIT: Since I can't be bothered to format stuff here on the forums, I'm going to be posting all of my future updates to this in a table here: User:Ian07/Still life islands (so please be sure to check the table before posting)

Although the table is in my user space, other users are welcome to edit it. Alternatively, post additions/improvements here.

This thread should be moved from the Sandbox to the Patterns section, so it doesn't get lost.

I considered that, but this was just something I came up with on a whim and I wasn't really sure if there would be any continued interest. A mod can move this to the Patterns section if they want to. In any case, I'm now compiling these on the wiki in my userspace. Everyone is welcome to edit, by the way!

EDIT: All of the possible xs7s done now, though xs7_134o8, xs7_1348o, and xs7_234o8 may or may not be possible; this is the closest I could get:

Those are impossible (if not in StateInvestigator), since the two red cells need to be suppressed. If you suppress one with a pre-block, the blue cells will turn on. If you suppress one of the red cells (while keeping the blue suppressed), the other red cell can still turn on. If you suppress all four of the red and blue cells, the gray cell will turn on, and if you suppress that, the yellow cell is overpopulated.

Is there a similar project for minimal matches? (similar to this except supporting cells can touch the base)

Two minor improvements by replacing a bun with a snake: https://www.conwaylife.com/w/index.php? ... ldid=69133 (again, can't be bothered to format them into RLEs so you'll have to look at them yourself on Catagolue)

By the way, since I may not have made this clear initially, everyone is welcome to edit the page themselves to add/improve entries.

If you're talking about a single LifeViewer containing all of them, sure, preferably at the bottom. Multiple LifeViewers, however, would probably make the page unbearably slow.

There are lots of viewers in the tutorials/glider_synthesis page as well but it works fine.
In a single viewer, it could be something like this:

Took a crack at the red ones

Code: Select all

x = 49, y = 23, rule = LifeHistory
4.2D18.2D18.D$5.D18.D19.2D$4.D19.D19.D$4.D19.D19.D$4.D19.D19.D$3.2D 18.2D18.2D9$47.2A$2A2.2C18.2C19.C2.A$A.A2.C15.A2.C17.A2.2C$2.A.C3.2A 10.A.A.C2.A13.A.A.C$.2A.C.A2.A11.A2.C.A.A13.A2.C$.A2.C.2A16.C2.A17.C. 2A$3.2C.A16.2C19.2C.2A$8.A$7.2A!

Not sure how to check if they are minimal
EDIT: Improvements
The first one can be made slightly smaller:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 7, rule = LifeHistory
6.2A$2A.2C2.A$A3.C.A$.A.C2.2A$2A.C.A$A2.C.A$2.2C.2A!
The other two are almost certainly minimal.
x₁=ηx
V ⃰_η=c²√(Λη)
K=(Λu²)/2
Pₐ=1−1/(∫^∞_t₀(p(t)ˡ⁽ᵗ⁾)dt)

$$x_1=\eta x$$
$$V^*_\eta=c^2\sqrt{\Lambda\eta}$$
$$K=\frac{\Lambda u^2}2$$
$$P_a=1-\frac1{\int^\infty_{t_0}p(t)^{l(t)}dt}$$

Well duh, how did I miss that! Anyway, one of the yellow ones is not, in fact, impossible:
