Edit: there's more. I asked it "Who is the discoverer of the famous oblique spaceship sir robin in game of life?"
and it said:
The discoverer of the famous oblique spaceship Sir Robin in the Game of Life is David Buckingham. He discovered it in 1987.

Sir Robin is a spaceship that moves diagonally across the grid. It is one of the most famous spaceships in the Game of Life because it is relatively small and simple, but it is also very versatile. Sir Robin can be used to build a variety of other structures, including guns, oscillators, and spaceships that can travel in different directions.

Sir Robin is named after the character Sir Robin from the Monty Python film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Sir Robin is a cowardly knight who is always trying to find ways to avoid fighting. The oblique spaceship Sir Robin is also known for its evasive maneuvers. It can change direction quickly and easily, making it difficult to capture or destroy.

David Buckingham is a British computer scientist who is known for his work on cellular automata, including the Game of Life. He has discovered a number of other famous spaceships in the Game of Life, including the LWSS glider, the MWSS glider, and the HWSW glider.

Sir Robin remains one of the most popular and well-known spaceships in the Game of Life. It is a testament to David Buckingham's skill as a cellular automata designer.

This page is a big fat joke. It's meant to be an intro to OCA disguised as a guidebook to a fantasy world. If anyone can contribute with their expertise, let me know!

Sir Sprayer
Sir Blue Tit (Ummm...)
Sir Ryder (What???)
Sir Bottle
Sir Mist
Sir Cardinal
Sir Carter

Inspired by Haycat, I'd asked Bard about "First 10 known spaceships", then it gives me this answer:

-

Glider: The most famous and smallest spaceship in Conway's Life, the glider consists of 5 live cells and moves diagonally at a speed of c/3 (one cell per three generations).

Lightweight Spaceship: Discovered in 1970 by Bill Gosper, the lightweight spaceship is the second smallest at 6 live cells. It also moves diagonally but at a slower speed of c/4.

Middleweight Spaceship: Found in 1970 by Richard Guy, the middleweight spaceship is slightly larger with 7 live cells and moves orthogonally (up/down/left/right) at a speed of c/2.

Heavyweight Spaceship: Another 1970 discovery by Conway himself, the heavyweight spaceship is the largest of the first four with 11 live cells and also moves orthogonally at c/2.

Pentacle: Discovered in 1971 by Conway, the pentacle is a 5-cell oscillator that doesn't move but exhibits interesting rotational symmetry.

Blinker: Found in 1971 by Gosper, the blinker is a 3-cell oscillator that alternates between two states, making it appear to blink.

Toad: Discovered in 1971 by Conway, the toad is a 6-cell oscillator that goes through a 2-generation cycle.

Beacon: Discovered in 1971 by Conway, the beacon is a 6-cell oscillator with a 6-generation cycle, making it blink slower than the toad.

Fission Tupperware: Discovered in 1977 by Conway, the fission tupperware is a 16-cell oscillator that splits into two gliders after 110 generations.

T-tetromino engine: Discovered in 1977 by Conway, the T-tetromino engine is a 9-cell spaceship that moves diagonally at c/7, making it one of the first known spaceships with a speed other than c/2, c/3, or c/4.

These first 10 spaceships paved the way for the discovery of countless more complex and fascinating patterns in Conway's Life. They continue to inspire mathematicians and game enthusiasts alike with their beauty and intricate behavior.

how many forum users does it take to change a lightbulb?
* 1 to notice the lightbulb and report to a mod
* 1 particularly lazy mod to remove it (without replacing it)
* the op to put the (burnt) lightbulb back
* 6 users to argue on it
* 10 more users to get involved
* 2 more users to spam it all
* 1 more user to get very angry and call everyone a b*tch
* 1 mod to lock the thread (with the burnt lightbulb still in)
* yet another user to request that the thread is unlocked and remind everyone that the lightbulb hasnt been replaced yet
* 1 mod to unlock it
* 5 users to roast each other
* a completely new user to actually replace the lightbulb
so, in total, 31.

note: this isnt referring to conwaylife forum. its referring to every other forum ive been in.

The glider{*} has at least 29 alive cells:{**}
  • One cell in the top row, one cell in the middle row, three cell in the bottom row
  • One cell in the first column, two cells in the middle column, two cells in the last column
  • 0 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 cells on the ascending diagonals passing through the bounding box
  • 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 0 cells in the descending diagonals passing through the bounding box
  • 8 = 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 cells in the four 2-by-2 subsquares of the bounding box
  • one spare cell
{*} Note: this is referring to the alpha-glider (bo$2bo$3o!). The beta-glider (o$b2o$2o!) has at least 31 live cells.{**}

How many forum users does it take to add a glider in an info box? (Inspired by haaaaaands)

1 to notice the missing glider and PM all the admins
10 admins who are waken up in the middle of a good dream and thus pass the duty to someone else
3 users on mobile that cannot do anything and complain to the admins
1 admin that will not add the functionality and gets them to buy a laptop
3 users hassled for money for a laptop
1 admin woken up in the middle of the night for “edit permissions”
5 users asked “how do I add the glider in there”
1 mad admin blocks the users due to “spamming”
3 users to remind everyone about the glider
1 furious admin to allow discussion
10 users to edit war about the glider
1 raging admin to protect it
10 users to roast each other
3 users to remind the admin that it has to be added
1 admin wielding a banhammer to unprotect it
2 users adding the glider at the same time, creating an edit conflict
2 users blaming each other
1 admin ready to throw their tantrum locks the thread and hammers them
1 new user adds it.

In short, 60. What has our wiki become?

a mathemathician is making factorials:
7!=1*2*3*4*5*6*7
and a programmer walks in and says:
correct! of course 7!=1*2*3*4*5*6*7
7=7, not 5040

Do not capitalize my username. Also you can edit quotes cause I don't like very long quotes.

Because only in LifeWiki you can find things that are so hilariously absurd when out of context:

"When the sparks are applied again, the toad is shifted back. [...] there are really only three different types of toad suckers. [...] sparks from two parallel dragons to escort a toad at one-sixth of the speed of light."
ye, my favorite one currently is the fact that you can gather 28 people to create an entire galaxy. (Kok's galaxy)

well, actually, it's tied with the fact that you can travel at the speed of light in a telegraph multiple times bigger than a quasar using beehives (Telegraph)

(if you find this funny, like this post)

(disclaimer: this is all fictional)

I time-travelled to 2050 and checked the Golly 18.pi Pattern Collection. Unfortunately, most of the text is redacted to prevent time-travel paradoxes.

Some little gems I found:

Code: Select all

#N elementary-camelship.rle
#O tessaron_parker, 17 July 2037
#C This is the first elementary camelship found so far. With a speed
#C of (3,1)c/8, it is by far the fastest of its velocity. Several
#C other larger ships of this velocity have been found.
#C Reference: <REDACTED>
x = 82, y = 247, rule = B3/S23
<REDACTED>

Code: Select all

#N silk_road.rle
#O Various, collected on 4 May 2046
#C This RLE is called “Silk Road” due to the several knightships and
#C camelships in it. It is a period-152468467356 oscillator which
#C consists of various spaceship converters.
#C The spaceships converted are the glider, LWSS, Schick engine,
#C 46P4H1V0, lobster, loafer, copperhead, flying saucer,
#C 2-engine Cordership, walrus, seal, Sir Robin, caterpillar,
#C 2340P8H3V1, and (34,7)c/156 caterpillar in that order. Each
#C spaceship is converted into a glider before it is converted
#C to the next spaceship.
#C Reference: <REDACTED>
x = 2562252579, y = 3874642908, rule = B3/S23
<REDACTED>
And some OCA goodies as well. I mainly looked into the Factorio file. (I hear they are liking me even in 2050 - a good sign?)

Code: Select all

#N factoriopatterncollection.rle
#O Various, collected on 20 Mar 2050 by H. H. P. M. P. Cole
#C To commemorate the birthday of H. H. P. M. P. Cole a great
#C present was created – that of the Definite Factorio
#C Oscillator Collection. It has been proven omniperiodic in
#C 2049, with the discovery of the odd-period AbhpzTa-FWKnightship
#C loop.
#C Reference: <REDACTED>
x = 7504, y = 3046, rule = R3,C0,S2,B3,N+
<REDACTED>

Code: Select all

#N elephantship.rle
#O xjq, 29 Feb 2032
#C This ship is made out of what is colloquially called
#C Durnak plasma - an aperiodic agar of 25% density.
#C The strange thing is that Durnak plasma can come in all forms,
#C and one of the more striking of them is this (8,3)c/79 spaceship.
#C Reference: <REDACTED>
x = 53, y = 26, rule = R3,C0,S2,B3,N+
<REDACTED>
Computing power in 2050 has grown to such a point that one can simulate the giant "Silk Road" pattern on a personal quantum computer. Scientists are still figuring out how to squash that much computing power into the size of an atom, as they found it was theoretically possible.

I have seen the Forums of 2050. It has reached over 1,000,000 members. Apparently after hopping out of the time travel machine I saw an older version of myself at a table, posting a new discovery. After the older version of me had gone away (to do some errands), I created a new account and posted a question under the username "retardationfactor".

I asked about the current status of CGOL. Freywa's son, "Parcly Taxel II", had replied me, stating that all the SKOPs had less than or equal to 104 cells, CGOL was proven omnivelocital, and a technology developed in 2031 which was a simple and fast pi to loafer+copperhead had been discovered and used to make loafer guns of all periods.

The predominant spaceship-based technologies in 2050 no longer include the glider; they mainly utilize it as an intermediate to convert between the Big Five: loafer, copperhead, 2EC, caravan (30P5H2V0), and flying saucer (25P3H1V0.1). All the conduits using standard inputs were found using ConduitForce in 2039.

Oscillators had become commonplace and no one bothered looking for them anymore, as they are as easy to find in 2050 as SLs are in 1990. However, oscillator synthesis has improved immensely. All SKOPs are less than 104 cells. Technology with speeds of c/2o, c/3o, c/4o, c/4d, and c/10o was considered trivial by then.

On the topic of SL synthesis, a finite set of synthesizable components has been found which can synthesize all but the unsynthesizable SLs.

However, the most striking thing was when I found out ConwayLife.com had split into several websites. It, in 2050, was reserved only for general discussion, hence there is also ConwayLifeShips.com, ConwayLifeSpaceshipTech.com, and ConwayLifeConvertersandTech.com.

OCA had moved to another site, OcaBoard.com. The new OCA exploration of 2050 has moved on from INT (since INT is so vanilla by then) and into HROT/HROT weighted and Multistate. Unfortunately the two parties are still arguing over which of their rulespaces have more developed technology.

There is a dedicated site for all things Factorio, much like where CGOL is at now. It was named after me and the site had the name ColeFactorio.com. Other sites have been named after their CA, including YoelHexogen.com, HaycatGrounded.com, CloseLifeVariants.com, and some more.

The 'Maximum number of 4-cell oscillators' game has been solved with a nonexplosive rule which has 1,046 4-cell oscillators. The root rule is a weighted rule in range-19 which has 276 of them, and it is not based off Factorio (like most of the earlier results).

Finally, Dave Greene's nonalogy/ennealogy (is that a word?) of books has been completed and released to the world.
Harfordson Parker-Cole
